Yeah I realize that about Grouse, although I would be curious where the control work actually ends. You can see the OB sign on a SE face just below Grouse proper (where the skin track from ward usually takes you). However, a lot of people from the resort traverse below that and ski a couple faces skiers right of that (which I have always assumed are not controlled).
I am talking Munchkins accessed from from Lakeview). And the E side of that drainage once you get way out (eg East of the huge chutes you see from the road). For example, I saw a guy leading a kid and his wife down a 45 degree hanging slope above a 30 foot cliff. No other tracks on that slope and it looked prime. They were all standing together, falling down it and what appeared to be no gear.
Unless my geography is off, that is far from Condo Run and uncontrolled, serious terrain. It is certainly OB.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of people you see out there tend to not have gear.
Perhaps the Dad can clarify any mistakes in my geography on this one, as I am by no means a AM expert.
/end rant on no gear

I'll agree with UCL on Munchkins and surrounding terrain. There are just a couple of safe areas out there - but getting to them and from them leads you through some risky terrain. It is an accident scenario waiting to happen and I am imagining it may end up being a multiple victim scenario.
apparently im the only one who shows up in my office. anyone going out friday - sunday?

Ha. I did not see the minus sign when i looked at that. Must be inversion time as it is about 30 here at 7800'
14 days straight for me right up until the 23rd. Then Colorado and the famn damily forced a couple days off. Also, CO (lack of) snowpack was not so invigorating. Glad to be back and hoping to start another streak before going to Mexico on Sunday. Anyone want to tour Thu/Fri/Sat? I'd love to do something big like Job or backside of Roundtop.

I just watched the Echo video, that dude should be arrested. That was unreal.
Edited on a rainy Eastern side of Oahu, I present an in-bounds video from Kirkwood. As usual, I missed the storm cycle and skied almost entirely in flat-light...but have absolutely no complaints.
That was a strange storm on the south/east side of Tahoe considering how much later it came in compared to just about every forecast. I don't think I've ever been that far off before. So are you pretty much going Deathwish all the time regardless of conditions at this point?
Anyone know the secret to getting into the padded room?

http://www.laketahoenews.net/2013/01...ho-lakes-area/El Dorado County search and rescue crews located an injured skier and his dog above Echo Lakes on Wednesday.
“He blew out his knee skiing Echo Peak behind Angora Lake and called his girlfriend,” sheriff’s Lt. Pete Van Arnum told Lake Tahoe News.
Peter Brumis, 36, of South Lake Tahoe and his dog were airlifted out of the area about 6pm Jan. 2.
California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Flores was lowered from the helicopter to get to Brumis. The helicopter could not land because of the remote location, steep terrain, deep snow and high avalanche conditions.
Brumis was located at an elevation of 8,400 feet in deep snow.
The helicopter then landed in the wide spot at Sawmill Road and Lake Tahoe Boulevard.
That intersection on the edge of South Lake Tahoe was being used as a staging area for law enforcement, so traffic on Wednesday night was backed up in both directions.

10 days straight?
12 days straight?
15 days straight?
Buncha jacknugget whiney batches the lot of ya! Call me when you've gone 20+ days straight and you've clocked a season above 150 days. Fackin' pansy nap takin' TAMFs.
BTW, car registered 16 degrees between River Ranch and Squaw on 89 around 8pm tonight. Gonna be another crisp one on the morrow. And last night was cold enough for the inside of my windshield to freeze up. Rare that I have to scrape both the outside and inside just so I can see enough to drive to work in the morning.

Probably did see me @10. The wind deposits up there were money all day. Just what the doctor ordered for tired old me.
And yes, pic from the other night. Powdork wouldn't let me sleep. Dunno if he got any pics, it was dark. I heard about an SMS from you regarding dawn patrol, but I was rather spent by then. And, I'm a working stiff till Friday night.

16 degrees. You call that cold? Man, you Californian instructors are soft. Call me when you see zero in the valley an no inversion. Then I'll stroll up, wearing a harness, and let you guide me around the Star.
Btw, I'm going on five days straight motherfuckers!!!!
