that's echo peak, which is out of view to the right. justin befu kept reporting it as echo/talking mountain despite the fact that they are a ways apart. it's not unusual for it to go like that there and i seriously doubt it went on the 27th. that was just the first time people were able to get a picture of it. and no, what you see of the pocket to the right is all there is.

i would not be surprised to see a similar sized crown coming out the trees that ring the lower bowl on talking mountain. in fact i would be surprised if there is not one.

Thanks for all the harness / no harness etc beta on getting the kid up, and thanks for the chat telemike. It'll be slow going as the family only joins me for a few trips each year. Above all, I imagine I'll need to be patient and adaptable, and avoid forming bad habits. I'll be sure to post some toddler stoke after the fact.

Thanks for the photo, Nuthon. Is that the "dead tree" area? (I recall there being a series of cliff bands in the bowl between Echo and Angora, the navigational key to which was to ski to the dead tree somewhere in the middle.)

no, that is the saddle area between echo and flagpole.

i first noticed the crown early morning of the 27th and had noticed that spot looking like a loaded pillow on what i thought was xmas day or it could have been the 26th. i would guess it went the night bridging the 26th and 27th. that martin point slide was apparently from just 1 charge i think yesterday/28th so apparently that layer was active then. we didnt dig this morning but bout the same conditions as yesterday. skied a line i hadnt skied in that zone since i got rinsed there a couple years ago and it felt bomber. seems you need an explosive charge or perhaps a heavy sled to instigate a slide

i think you would have seen the pillow on xmas day. 26th was echo shuttle day and we couldn't see squat, unless it was later in the day. my guess would be it went during or near the end of the storm on the 26th, since the debris pile looks to be covered, but not covered much.


today was fun on trimmer with frorider, jenn (maggette?), and tahoebc. it was a lot like this

hiked tallac today. coming back i saw something that took my breath away. the burger lounge sign; with the burger lounge part of it painted over. have they closed?

edit- oops, i forgot about google. from the tahoe notsodaily tribune.

Burger Lounge has announced that its last day in business will be Sunday, Sept. 30.

The restaurant, owned by Matt Reinke and located at 717 Emerald Bay Road, has been in business for nine years and has been voted Best of Tahoe multiple times.

passed by earlier in the week skiing emerald bay and there was an "open under new ownership sign" draped over the oversize mug. the jury is convening

Kirkwood skied well today. Mostly cut up pow and just a grand ol' time doing laps on 6. The dark clouds moved in mid-day so I bailed on any long expedition to thunder saddle etc. Took a lap on 10 and decided the chair was too cold. That cold is definitely keeping the snow in great shape. Some thickness from the sun yesterday and this morning but not bad.

After my lap on 10 I decided I'd had enough for the same reason. Glad to hear it wasn't just me. 6 was fun, and actually got better later in the day with the snow coming down.

Just read that. Anybody know why SAC didn't do incident reports on any of the inbounds slides early last week? I figured that's within their purview, but maybe not.
