If its not total velcro (which I have a feeling it is), I'm going to head up for some happy hour turns.
I saw some folks with sleds (at least on trailers) at the Incline Lake gate and it looked like there was enough to go. There seemed to be at least 6" new there. Much much less at Mt Rose though. It was such that my shuttle partners were lagging way behind and I texted them to turn around and go to Carson Pass or Kirkwood. I did one run in the chutes and split to the climbing gym. There were some turns already off El Cap that yielded rollerballs but no wet slides. I hit whatever is between El Cap and Jackpot and got it to go pretty good. Skiing the base that was left was actually better than the fresh. This was around 11 and I'm guessing it was better earlier.

???? i am guessing you (pdork) musta had some other reason to be skiing rose instead of kwood/cp where 6-12" had fallen. was gonna ski eback today but due to the viz card we stopped atop luther to ski a tree run and were rewarded w/ 1k+ of legit fast but heavy pow skiing this am. the bottom was thin wet slidey and scratchy and resembled dorks vid but the top waayyyy exceeded expectations. hadn't skied my praxisizzzes since december and even had new wax to schralp on that was applied in december and not used till now. doubt it held up though w/ the warmness. noticed ebbets and monitor were both closed this am. guessing sonora and tioga could have been as well.

yeah i knew the echo to carson corridor got more but i didn't know rose would be so bleak. i really just wanted to get to the climbing gym but wanted to get the pup some exercise first. in that regard it was a complete success.

We were the group of three just ahead of you, thought I recognized the dog but wasn't sure. We took light gear, fishscales and didn't try the chutes, just afraid of ice under the glop and actually didn't own the terrain we skied either but survived it so to speak. But no sharks and the glop wasn't that sticky except near the bottom. Anyway, I think you can stick a fork into Rose, maybe a few more days of poaching the resort but the adjacent BC looks pretty boney with the exception of hourglas but the ski out would be dicey. Drove past Shasta and Lassen a couple of days ago, Shasta looked a little skimpy for this time of year but Lassen looked good. However word is that the good approach road to Lassen is closed for a while, my ski partner just got back from Shasta and said it was doable but a lot of work approaching the corn.

Yeah i should have let him out of the car he's much nicer that way. i just get in the habit of keeping him in there unless we're a ways away from the highway so i don't have to worry while i put the boots on. good almost meeting you.

Quick "boot-up" Sonora Pass expedition this Weekend?

Thinking about heading to Sonora Pass one of the days this weekend, for some lightweight earn-your-turns skiing...
    Looking for Advice/Beta/Partners...???

Prolly just me & Tini (Cinders has some Sciatica-type butt pain).
Driving down from Oakland. Consider us "Novices".

So, is SP gonna open by Sat/Sun do you think?
(We saw a likely spot on our way to Mammy last Thurs. Were gonna hit it on the way home, but got closed out)

Or somewhere else to go instead?

If not, is there anything close to the Sonora closure to ski?

    Anyone want to join in?

Any info on snow conditions near Lake Tahoe. I'm guessing that area is kinda over for the year. Looking at the weather forecast sites it has the low temp for South Lake area at 47 the day before. I'm guessing everything near Tahoe is muck.

Any updates on Tioga pass opening date of May 11th? Has the road already been opened up to the park entrance or has the gate at the bottom still been locked? I know their has been some new snow in the past few days.

I'm have one day free on Sunday May 12, staying in South lake, have a car and all my gear would like to get out for a day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a few friends still in Mammoth so might just go there for the day also...?

Yosemite, CA -- Some high country snow over the past week is not hindering Yosemite National Park's plan to open Tioga Pass this weekend.

Park Ranger Kari Cobb says the highest elevations received a couple inches of snow over the past week, but it has been melting very quickly. Tioga Pass will open for the season at noon on Saturday. There may still be some snow and ice along some of the high country trails. All campgrounds along Tioga Pass will remain closed for the time being, as well as commercial services like the gas station, store and village grille. Those facilities could be open sometime within the next few weeks.

No surprise. On FB: "Look at all the cool non-skiing alpine furniture improvements/shops we're planning for the Village! We're sinking 50 million into the mountain!!! Buy a Super Pass!"

    WTF?

Who replaced the Powdork I know with a pod person? I mean somebody's gotta give me'n Vets a run for our money on the patch skiing front! Last summer was sparse, but manageable ('member the sweet storm on Memorial Day?), so this one should be no problem...

we'll see. going to the same places i went to last year places undue stresses on my sanity and happiness, so i avoid those places. my best bet is a shasta trip in june, and a yellowstone trip that straddles july/august with the minis. if i make those then maybe september will happen somewhere. right now my passion is climbing and i plan to scare the fuck outta myself learning that.

Hit up Rose summit this morning.
Original plan was to hit The Chutes, but they looked pretty burnt, plus one of the main ones that still goes appeared to have a bit of wet slide running down the middle. El Cap looked decent, though moguly. Given the appearance of a recent slide and the fact that nobody was skiing them @ 10 am (nor did there appear to be any recent tracks), we opted to bang out a couple of quick and dirty boot pack laps back up on the Tamarack side of the summit. Snow was already cream cheese by 11 and there were quite a lot of air pockets crumbling away under some of our turns.
The snowpack is still quite decent, just needs to be skied much, much earlier due to the warm temps.
That said, we witnessed a bunch of boarders further up the ridge hitting a pretty serious kicker....
