Yes there is. There is no network pass this year. That is the crunch. So, for instance, my friends, a family of four saw there family pass price increase from $739 per-Vail to $1360 for next season.

I hear you, I was under the impression I would be paying full boat for an Epic pass if I wanted to ski Kirkwood without blackout dates next year, so a small victory nonetheless.

before pass prices went up, squaw was a ghost town.

    now it's a circus.

some of us refer to the pre-2010 days as "when squaw was our own private country club".

i think making the pass at least $700 would make a huge difference... but it won't happen.

gotta imagine they're making way more money now.
    Still waiting...

    very serious.

despite its reputation to the contrary, squaw was very uncrowded before the cheap passes.

now lift lines are a reality almost every saturday.

there are many folks who agree with me (and many who don't).

a mid-week squaw pass (good for zero saturdays and sundays) cost over $900 in 2000.

a full pass bought in september was about $1,700.

i wish they could find a happy medium between then and now, but i feel the new prices are here to stay.
    Still waiting...

Yes, the $439 the KW-Only pass (No blackout) is the same price as the Tahoe local pass (KW, Heave and Gapestar, but with blackouts).

....and to quote Splat, "...I make it a point that the only money these fuckers will ever get from me is my season pass dollars. BAAHAAHAAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

but in 20 yrs, what are all thousands of 2nd homeowners and tourists staying in the valley supposed to do during the seasons where most all precip comes down as rain?

on a related note, anybody heard about the prehistoric-era forest in fallen leaf lake?

Exactly. If only there was a large lake nearby to alleviate such problems.

I'm getting ready to head back east after my first trip to Northern California/Tahoe. I was of course hoping for some fresh now, but still had a blast at Squaw/Alpine skiing spring conditions.

Props to Jim S. for selling me his old Praxis Mountain Freerides, which were great fun.

Yes, there are full size (80-100') trees @ the bottom of Fallen Leaf Lake.

the treetops are about 20-30 ft below the water surface. prehistoric lower lake shoreline is theorized resultant of a very long "drought", i.e. climatatic shift that lasted ~100-200 yrs, that occurred during the middle ages. here's an early paper: http://www.nvwra.org/storage/newslet...le3_kleppe.pdf

i heard him speak last week. it sounds like he's done a fair bit more work at this point. if i remember right, his calculations were that there were over 100 yrs of precip that were basically below 60% of normal (at that time).

apparently, there are believed to be similar trees/forests in several other tahoe area lakes.

    pretty fascinating stuff.

    Nice. Nice. Noice!

Thanks for a little props for the north shore. Looks like a few more entries for Nacho that you could submit to the Lucky Dogs of Lake Tahoe calendar folks.

And that route has been a circus down low all season. Looks to me like your clown shoes handled the duff as well as the corn, but I have a suspicion splat makes you a special version with an all-metal bottom

Ditto. I'd gladly pay 4 x what I pay now for a pass. Because of the crowds I have skied < 4 weekend days at Squaw all season in contrast to weekdays. Thank god I work nights.

Stoked for tomorrow! Even it is 1/2 foot!
