I thought kirkwood skied great this weekend. Have rarely seen more beaters on the mountain though. At one point riding up 6, saw a snow boarder who had ostensibly butt slid half way down release his board only to take out a female skier 600' feet below. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. The boarder then proceeded to lay back and slide the rest of the hill sans any gear. Hope the girl skier was ok...
now thats a first, "these skis are great in the air." hahahaha.
lots of transitional snow on the sunnysides but should be geting better each day. decent pow in the low angled protected trees still and in protected closeout couloirs
Great pictures and stoke all, very interesting to see how much fun can be had on our current "snow"pack.
Thanks for the beta shot dhklauer; I was skiing a similar aspect nearby and instability was the furthest thing from my mind. If I recognize it correctly, the region of that slide gets tracked regularly under supposedly less stable conditions.
Ughhhhh....looking thin up there.

Yeah, that photo is of the lookers left bowl directly above the big tree field at Crater Lake (North Facing Apect). If you look closely at the photo I put in the video, you can see a skier dropping in top left. I'm not going to judge because i'm sure that all of my decisions in the backcountry aren't the best............but after that first portion slid, I wouldn't have put another person on that aspect.
Headed to KW tomorrow to slay a sunny day trip...going to ski the same boring shit and drive home with a smile.
should be there too, looking to head out to emigrant in the afternoon after the contest.

big ups to unofficialalpine.com
I have not been to Tahoe since Jan and I have not looked at unofficialalpine since then either
if found some good stuff tonight
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Right-on. Thanks for the re-direct. The Feb 18th Post on Logan LaPlante is great. I'm going to take that back to school with me and show my students! Its good to see that I can come to TGR (and Unofficial) for some noggin-stoke, not just snow-stoke. Possibly because the Snow is MIA.
Thanks Telemike!
Anyone of you maggots willing to offer some east coast tourists a good time? Headed out to Tahoe next Wednesday for a week. Would love to take a day to tour. There's beer and good cheer in it for ya. Probably two or three of us with BC experience but no local knowledge.
I demoed the TECH TALK JONG! pro model this spring and their performance was unparalleled which is good because I ski in a wedge most of the time - bendtheski, 2011
Just a quick question for y'all: At what altitude is the snow line right now?
I was planning to do an overnight tour in the Yosemite backcountry this weekend, but I'm guessing there would be a muddy slog out of the valley, and I don't really feel like doing that.
So: is there even coverage between the peaks in Desolation Wilderness?
Thanks for any and all insight!

I have a friend coming in from out of town tonight and I was hoping to show him around the CP tomorrow. Unfortunately I haven't been up since the last little storm. Is there any wintery goodness to be found still, or are we in for a character building day? Any beta would be greatly appreciated.
^^ the corn should be spectacular tomorrow (assuming the sun is out).
i wouldn't even bother looking for winter snow (i would enjoy corn), but that's me.
i'm sure people here will claim wintery goodness is available...
it always amazes me how long you guys hunt for that stuff.
Still waiting...
mottled windblown pow exists in the low angled n trees, fairly fun faceted snow in steep north, and corn is transitioning fast on southish out of the wind in the cp. some wind crust exists but can mostly be avoided.
we hunt for that stuff cause we can and corn season is plenty long enough already. if all i did was ride kt like you it would be kinda impossible since winter went into hiding
good beta gimpy, thanks.

This map actually works pretty well.

Awesome guys, thanks for the intel.
Skied many West Shore laps with...Zippy today! First time in 2 years and he's skiing quite well with some fused vertebrae and all that time off.
Found great winter wind packed chalk in west shore proper and diagonal. A couple aggressive laps in Temple yielded untracked pow landings. Snow in thunder saddle and in All the Way off 10 was quite wintery and fun.
The bad - the blue ice still has a mighty stronghold all around west shore. Mainly ridges and exposed areas but still there. Definitely still hanging around the Oops area as well.
