Ditto. 4-5 inches at 2500 ft. That is more then I had on the hood of my truck yesterday when I left KW at 5 pm.

6" of fluff on the crest?!..uuugh, I actually would rather it just be sunny and warm so I could just go ride groomers for a few hours rather than deal with people thinking it's a powder day. What's the opposite of a sleeper day? I got my grumpy ass outta bed so I might as well go make some turns.

When do you not complain like a teenage girl who's parents won't let her go see a justin bieber concert. You should probably smoke more ganja, it might actually make you happy about something.

Early this year I was told by a troller that the number of riders was secret proprietary corporate information, and patrol was not to be informed of the skier volume. One of the "improvements" this year. He was not happy.

On another note, I hope you all are avoiding this deep-chest Cold that I am trying to shed. The doctor said there are two virus's going around, one that lasts a week, the other lasts two weeks. I am 10 days into it.

I should be skiing today, but an glad to just breathe without coughing.

    .
The respiratory flu going around is brutal. I fought it off without a cough but I have three friends that have been coughing for a month.

That cough fucking lasts forever. Feels like there's something down in the bottom of your lungs that doesn't want to come up. Fortunately the rest of it went away.

431 is white knuckle driving in a storm, and just seems like unnecessary vertical and curves. Am I missing something here?

Last year you could have taken 267 through Brockway and that would have been way easier, though a bit more trafficked, than going over 431.
I drive 431 every day (or at least every weekday) no matter what the weather. I gotta give NDOT a lot of credit: Even though it's the highest winter pass in the Sierra (8,900'), they keep it open in nearly all circumstances. I've twice seen huge snowplows that have crashed off the side of the road during storms in which they've never shut the pass. Once in a long while, they'll briefly close it for an hour or two for avy control or because of an accident (the latter of which seems to happen as often in the summer as the winter). But only once have I had to take a detour.

As for 80 (and 50 for that matter), I much prefer 431. The biggest danger on Sierra roads is other drivers. At least during commute hours, not many people drive 431 during big storms and most of those who do are locals with reasonably equipped vehicles. Whereas 80 is often a shitshow of big rigs and minivans. As for 431, the main problem is visibility in windy storms, and that's really for only a 3-mile stretch where the main danger is softly nudging into a giant snow bank at 10 miles per hour.

Anyhoo, this is just me bullshiting on 431 vs. 80 generally and not directed toward somebody's apparent earlier request for actual advice. Schralph was throwing shade at my commute and I felt I had to set the record straight.

Everybody and their brother called in sick today, Sugar Bowl seemed to win this storm with an honest 10-12 inches. Careful in the BC around Castle/SB, the wind slabs were touchy although not huge. Could still cause some trouble. Get better Powhound!

If anybody saw from the Squaw Siberia chair about 11:30am, it was me tomahawking and yard sailing White Trash Chute from top to bottom over the ice and rocks. The most icy line and worst fall I've taken all season. Mad props to Jaime (Volk rep) for retrieving my ski from a gnarly 100% boiler plate ice chute. I tried to hike up for 45 minutes but couldn't get toe holds; I kept sliding back down looking like a douche.

Squaw received nominal snow. Enough for fun.

And prior to that I rode KT with the most obnoxious hostile person I've encountered since I was born. They guy wanted to duke it out..on the KT chair...over the Fngers....cursing like a whack job and threatening to beat me up...the whole time with in front of his elementary school child. Unbelievable.

Today was special in an unpleasant way.

Just because I rode up the chair early this month with Chistopher Dorner is no reason to make wild accusations.

So I'm assuming a skin up Tamarack is going to be marginal dawn patrol tomorrow before work, but thats all I have time for. Anyone poke around Mt. Rose after this snow?

Mt. Rose reported something like 1" of snow. Down the hill a little to the east, at about 5800', we got 1/8".

IMHO, not worth it. Dust-on-boilerplate is what I would expect.

Quite a mix of the good, the bad and the ugly today, it seems...
But this was kind of endearing.

I think it will be awful skin up and ski down: totally frozen up after today's sun.
Afternoon laps are more likely to be .....tolerable?

Don't you hate when you get to your line and Jeremy Jones and Seth Lightcap beat you by a few minutes

Also spotted Glen Plake, I mean Fake Plake aka Spats

Went with low expectations and ended up having a great day!
