Unskied northerly aspects north of CP were not bad if somewhat variable - pow pockets between ribs with breakable layers becoming more prominent. Great weather and good conditions for poking around.
Great shots from Maggies PD!
I'm thinking about wandering around the Carson Pass area this weekend while the holiday hordes descend on Kirkwood. Does this weather forecast look like there will be corn on southern faces by the weekend?
I have no experience finding corn beyond staring into the toilet the morning after a BBQ.
So I fly into RNO this evening, arriving at 8:55... 10 minutes after the 8:45 North Lake Tahoe Express shuttle to Alpine, and 2:50 before the 11:45. Although sitting around the airport with my shit for three hours is obviously enticing, I'm hoping someone has another suggestion for a shuttle service?
not counting days 2016-17
Doubt there will be hordes at KW. The last blackout day was pretty damn empty on the hill.
Big question for me is what the snow will be like Sunday through Tuesday.
So because silver/bronze passes aren't blacked out on Monday, are we looking at a total shit-show at Squawlpine? Or perhaps surprisingly uncrowded like it was around Christmas?
edit: nevermind. scrapping it, coming up for the storm on Tuesday/Wednesday instead.

i doubt it will be that bad... most people will head down the hill on sunday.
it will probably be less crowded than a typical sunday.
Still waiting...
Headed for Squaw on wednesday with two boys for the IFSA juniors over the weekend. Forecast not terribly promising other than sunshine, ut not the best comp conditions. Just like last year. Dammit.
Any local insight appreciated. It'd be fun to meet any squaw mags. beers on me.

I'll be there." ... Andy Campbell
Fair point. I guess you don't need to be all that experienced with the fine art of weather forecast reading when it just dumps all the time. My friend's brother moved to Hakkaido last year (for work! ha!) and said he barely bothers to look up the weather anymore - he just goes out and it's good.
Anyway, oftpiste, I'll probably be at Squaw on Wednesday... along with the rest of the surrounding Truckee population.
Weds will be my last day to ski, nice. Any word on conditions today with how warm it was? Heading up tomorrow and the high near 50 should be interesting.
How is the Heave skiing lately? They keeping the rocks covered? It's time for my once/year scenic tour, and in recent years, the sharks are prowling the groomers by noon.
10/01/2012 Site was upgraded to 300 baud.
Was there yesterday and surprisingly well covered on all the trails, groomed of course and pretty grippy, actually much better than last week. Trees, Mott and off piste was firm and bumpy, might be some softening in the afternoon. We just skied the AM and bailed. Bottomline, fun and good practice but only shallow groomers worth skiing, IMO
Found some packed powder groomers on the Backside of Northstar today...fast and grippy skiing with the wife.
Headed to the Heav tomorrow for some ski school drop-off's, cruising, beer, and some Mott and Killebrew poking around.
Thanks for the advice. We'll be at KW tomorrow.
HV skied pretty good yesterday.
Short hike to the top of Milky Way (path just b4 Pinnacles on Sky Trail) was worth it for some wind-buff & powder-trough bumps. Gate C of Killi had corn on skiers left & a little blower on top of firm-but-edgeable on the right, but the traverse out is a fair bit of walking now. FB gate was super smooth/soft at the top (still!)
The Face/Gunbarrel etc has been closed for a while now...so you have to step it up & hit Roundabout!!!
Oh yeah, it stayed cold all day. Was surprised it had softened up at all in Killi.
We normally use gate A & ski Outer Limits, for the double dose, but it was mostly crappy last time we tried, so we passed.
Motts on lookers right of the lift is getting pretty browned out. We didn't try any of the chutes (lookers left) thinking they might be a tad too "firm".
There is a BayAreaSkiBus coming to Squaw on Weds, btw. Cinders & me should be on it.

...Remember, those who think Global Warming is Fake, also think that Adam & Eve were Real...
They're actually 4 $50 tickets non-holiday and/or weekend and 4 $75 tickets (I think anytime), at least with my silver pass. Not so bad.
Thanks for the reminder. We also scored some vouchers for tomorrow, so our visiting family won't spend a large fortune.
Didn't make it to the backside today at Alpine, but snow everywhere was soft. I'd imagine by late afternoon, or hell, noon even, south facing stuff would be extra slushy.
