Nice stoke Pow Dork. Would have never guessed anything down there would be looking that good after the weather forecasts I've been seeing.
In my limited experience Keyhole unlikely to soften this early in the year--not enough direct sun. It was closed on Friday--don't know about the weekend. Someone else probably knows better.

Nacho kinda scares me, he been ski cut yet?
It definitely is a fear. And he can fuck up the continuity of a line for sure, waiting under jumps. he is slowly getting better and is totally preoccupied when there's other dogs around.
    he's very sorry though

you and snutty making a new stache team?

looks like I might be up next weekend, conditions be damned. Skinning is sounding good until I get new skis.

Anyone know how KW is skiing? Forecasted temps are looking high, wondering if I can find some good pow staches somewhere

Skied Jake's for the first time yesterday (Only my 2nd season skiing here) and I can see why it's usually the center of west shore activity. There was almost no new snow down at the road so I expected bone-chattering dust on crust like Squaw was this weekend, but once above the flat bench area it was a lot more wintry up there and there was a solid 5" of blower on top of a pretty soft crust which made the turns feel super smooth and much deeper. Shitty down below by the road but overall a pretty good day out there.

there was some decent snow at squaw this weekend...

not all-time epic, but certainly better than bone-chattering in spots.
    Still waiting...

I almost lost it on some serious ice under 6 during my last couple runs yesterday at KW...no bueno.

Had to shuttle more than a few skis to their gaper owners who were 100 yds downhill , kind of a shit show with all the groomed runs off of 6.

I did find some pretty nice pow turns in outer pali on my last run of the day, so all in all a successful weekend.

Keyhole right now is pretty bone shaking icy. It's definitely doable it it wasn't closed. If its 40 it won't soften up much, pretty due north. what the other dude said.

Not sure where they Would have a comp at Squaw. Probably silverado but thats gonna be icy too. Lot of north facing aspects over there. Most beautiful terrain in squaw though (arguably). Could also be up on Granite Chief peak too.

What are the comps? Anyone here know or gonna be in them.

squaw has had a couple comps in the last 10 years when conditions were like this.

in 2007 and 2008 they used "Enchanted Forest" for day 1 and "Light Towers" for day 2.

i remember riding around the week before the comp saying "how are they gonna pull this off?"

the competitors didn't care... they showed up and went big.

that was one of my favorite weeks ever at squaw!

Well, Zachary is always "icy" and MonteWolf was fine until the late wind beat on it and turned it super-firm.
The best groomers off 6 were Sentinel, which rocked out, and Olympic which was fun & swoopy.
I'm guessing you did the ski-pick-up on Janeck? Lotsa gapers on that one for some reason...
We thought Pali was pretty tracked out (it was fkn great on Friday). Found the funnest, soft & silent skiing over on Fawn Ridge.

Our regret was sizing up the top of SkiSchool, deciding to take a pass, and then seeing the KW groms drop into it when we traversed around...oh well..(.it too was great on Friday)
It was cool to see Vets, but dang it, he was not on BRO's!!

There were a few turns of decent pow in the trees but overall it was shitty.

Tahoe mags, currently consolidating my life to fit into my car for a move to east Idaho. I have a pair or older vintage 180 Moment Tahoes, mounted 3.5 times currently with Mojo 15's @292 I think. Picked them up used as a stop gap a few years back. Top sheet chipping, repaired core shots, bindings missing paint. Ski like a champ though with tons of life left. If any non jongs want em and can pick em up in Sac or Truckee at some point in the next few weeks they are yours. If a jong wants them then splain to me why you're worthy and promise to pay it forward. Preference given to known mags obviously.

^^^. I'm sure you will get takers, but if not, I have a buddy who is down on his luck who those would be perfect for. Let me know, as I would need to figure out how/when to get to Sac. ID looks promising in the coming weeks. Might find myself headed that way to find some fresh.

    You calling me a liar

Of course Zachary is always icy, I'm talking about down within ear shot of 6 loading station, lazy end of day turns that exposed some blue ice.

I agree, the groomers were fast and fun!

Excellent pics PD! Excellent doggy stoke Nacho!

Tahoe local passes will be blacked out at KW this weekend, so I bet it won't be too crowded... relatively speaking.

Fuck this, I'm going golfing. Call me when winter starts.

I'll be at Northstar on Friday with the wife. I'm guessing more drinking than skiing, but I'm ready to carve in the sun. After that, it will be a mixture of Heavenly and Kirkwood through Monday with the rest of the family. More firmpack furor, yippie!

If anyone has any deals, BOGOs, vouchers, etc for Squaw/Alpine they'd want to sell shoot me a PM. We've got family in town this weekend. Slipped my mind to start looking earlier.

Got my heavy ass touring setup ready to go, looking to get reminded I'm not in good shape any day starting Monday. Already got Jim S signed up for one day. Anyone else, let me know. Be happy to provide post-beers.
