Well, I put one of those swishing thrashing rods on the boat for stripers. Friend works at Cabelas and they had an 8wt on sale for $49. Reel was also $49. I guess an 8wt might qualify for the Big Hook thread. Ended up with more in the backing and leader than in the rod/reel. Picked up a couple of fluffy white things with a hook in the middle too.

Anyway, after learning to shoot a sinking line, we headed out to the striper grounds. First time out we managed 6 total. Brian got one, I got five. Largest about 8 pounds. No monsters, but fun.
