    Whistler Weekend...

Wow, did the Whistler report ever crap out. Forecast on Monday was 5 to 10cm Fri and 15 to 20cm on Sat. Now it's rain Fri with an alpine high of 4 celcius and 5 to 10 cm on Saturday. Dust on crust. It's not over just yet, but another few weeks of this and the season is done....

2mm of rain one evening and suddenly the season is 'done'?

I was up there last weekend and the upper mountain seemed just fine, even after 3 weeks and what seemed like about 150mm of solid rain, I doubt another 2 is really much to worry about. Just stay above the bottom of franz's/harmony and you'll be fine.

If things don't improve soon the season is a write off. It's been raining on and off with dustings of snow most of the season. If that's not the makings of a write off, I don't know what is....If we're still in this situation in the first week of March, this will go down as the worst season on record....Damn am I frustrated....

I've had 10 really solid days up there so far, and probably 2 where it wasn't worth it. It's definitely a crap season but it's a long way away from 'write off', especially after last week's dump.

Fair enough. I'm just measuring this season against all others I've had for the last 20 years, where the powder was plentiful and deep. Most of the time these days I'm forced to ski weekends, so I should edit my post and say that for me personally this season is a powder write off. When the mountain biking is still better than the skiing, it's a sad sad season....

I hear your pain. Although Whistler and the rest of SW BC and WA have been mostly crap- there have been some quality days squeezed in the middle.
Last Saturday- when they finally opened Spanky's, the snow was great- big difference was that when you got halfway down- it was like a minefield.

It's definitely frustrating when it seems you just can't get a break with the weather this year. Constant High Pressure, then when moisture comes in- it's a friggin' Pineapple or worse, Tropical Punch. Heck, it rained to the top of WH20 a few days, which is supposedly unheard of. I've got some pics from Stevens last week... maybe I'll post those later - they are a sad, sad sight.

I'm an optimist, but shit, this season- my optimism is sliding into the gutter on an uncontrollable downward spiral
edit: at least as far as Stevens/Alpental/Crystal skiing is concerned

Well, yesterday I had a fucking fantastic day of skiing. It's been bluebird for the past 3 or 4 days, and I've been loving it. We built the windlip up and hucked ourselves off of it (pics to follow), we've been hiking in and around the glacier, and it was epic (pics to follow), and we've been having a great season. It was depressing for a while, but i'll take what i can get, and i've been having fun.

Gotta agree with you on that one- it's definitely much better than it was. And Blackcomb Glacier had some nice coverage last weekend. Bluebird touring at Whistler certainly kicks ass-

Sam, I'll give you a call if I end up touring on Sunday. It's still up in the air right now.

Good to hear conditions continue to improve. Sounds like a few quality days this week. Hey, at least there is one place in SW BC / PNW one can go to find winter.

The latest valley forecast is no longer calling for any precip on Friday... just snow Saturday.
