    need the Tahoe 411

I just had to say 411 to sound cool...

What are the conditions looking like for this weekend? Good snow? North Shore/South Shore? any info would be great. interesting/unusual recipes also accepted.

10-4. Weather pattern for 2-12 to 13 is code A. Repeat Code A. Weekend looks ready for a 390 and 390-d. Requesting code 951 for 10-73 in progress involving skis. Looks like some Kirkweed maggs are commiting a 908 in anticipation of a Code B.

Since Pu covered the 411, I'll just add a recipe:

    Smoked Salmon Tartare

    ingredients:

1 8oz. package Nova Lox (need the gelatinous gooey kind of smoked salmon, not PNW Applewood smoked- too dry!)

    1 small schallot

2-3 tbs chopped FRESH Chervil (FRESH Cilantro or Italian Parsley will do)

    1 tbs non-pareil Capers

2 tbs Really good Extra-Virgin Olive oil

Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper to taste

    Roughly chop the salmon
Place in non-metallic bowl, add all other ingredients and toss lightly. Serve on Sourdough Toast Points.

    Walla!

Looks like, we are in a freeze/thaw cycle. The forecasted clouds may keep us from getting any good corn this weekend. BTW: We did get a few inches of snow Monday.

N-facing stuff at Squallywood is still good (North Bowl, Alternates, etc), groomers are actually dare I say good (Bullet, Resort, Hogsback, Sunbowl, etc.) but Gimpy is mostly correct.

Lots of fun stuff going on up here though on the N shore should you choose to come up this way.....

Hopefully it will be warm enough to get some good freeze/thaw going.

In the meantime, here's a recipe for you WSD:

    HAGGIS #1

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    Stomach bag and pluck (heart
Liver and lights of a sheep
    -(You can substitute a
    -Selection of organ meats)
    2 Onions -- peeled
    2 c Pinhead oatmeal -- (Irish
    -oatmeal)
    1 2/3 c Suet
    Salt & pepper
    -trussing needle and fine
    - stirng

Thoroughly wash the stomach bag in cold water. Turn
it inside out and scald it, then scrape the surface
with a knife. Soak it in cold salted water overnight.
Next day remove the bag from the water and leave it on
one side while preparing the filling. Wash the pluck.
Put it into a pan, with the windpipe hanging over the
side into a bowl, to let out any impurities. Cover the
pluck with cold water, add 1 teaspoon of salt and
bring the water to a boil. Skim the surface, then
simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Meanwhile parboil the
onions, drain, reserving the ligquid, and chop them
roughly. Also tpast the pinhead oatmeal until golden
brown. Drain the pluck when ready and cut away the
windpipe and any excess gristle. Mince half the liver
with all the heart and lights, then stir in the
shredded suet, the toasted oatmeal and the onions.
Season well with salt and pepper. Moisten with as much
of the onion or pluck water as necessary to make the
mixture soft. With the rough surface of the bag
outside fill it just over half full, the oatmeal will
swell during cooking, and sew the ends together with
the trussing needle and fine string. Prick the bag in
places with the needlw. Place the haggis on and enamel
plate and put it into a pan of boiling water. Cover
the pan and cook for about 3 hours, adding more
boiling water when necessary to keep the haggis
covered. Serve with the traditional accompaniment of
Tatties-an'Neeps. (Mashed potatoes and mashed turnips.)

Any recipe that begins with: "Thoroughly wash the stomach bag in cold water" just has to be good.

i am bailing on heading back up this w/e...doesn't look too good. so will stay here and mtb sat and road ride sun (not so bad).

but next week the storm door looks to swing wide open again, with snow mon-thur. they can't call the amounts as of now, but looks promising. this could be another major storm brewing, actually, a series of them....

and, of course, i have to go to Chicago for bid'ness Tues-Sat, so you know it will be epic. enjoy
