I decided to get my first computer with my tax returns. After waiting for the video card to come in it was finally shipped. My problem is that when I decide to buy something big I alway spend a lot of money. This is no different. After doing a lot of research I checked with the local computer store on prices to build a computer. Well they were expensive especially for the video card. I ended up piecing it together via three online stores and my brother-in-law agreed to put it together for me. I hope this computer is somewhat future proof. In case anyone is wondering here are the specs.

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 939 socket
Ansus A8V-E Deluxe Motherboard
1 gig (512x2) Crucial DDR400 Memory
Above was put together and tested before being shipped
xFx Geforce 6800 GT, PCI express
120gig Western Digital SATA HD
Lain Li PC 60 midtower aluminum case
480 watt Antec true power PSU
CD/DVD ROM, Artec I think
CD/DVD Burner, NEC
3.5" Floppy Drive, Alps
19" CRT flat screen, Envision
Logitech Internet Keyboard and mouse combo
Logitech X530 5.1 speakers

I went cheaper on the monitor, speakers and mouse and keyboard combo. I figure I'll get better stuff such as an LCD monitor (if the can do better blacks) when I get more proficient at computers.

I got Windows XP Home edition for a huge discount through a work program and Office Professional 2003 for free from another work program. I also get to download Half-life 2 for free from buying the CPU motherboard combo.
