VOTING: MPC #88 - Big Machinery. Ends 8/12

Thanks everyone for participating. I picked Freak's exotic location, Outabounds I really liked how the moonlight lit up the machines, Underoos gets in because I am a sucker for lift maintenance, and Chainsaw Willie those pictures are stunning and I want to see how the #1 v. #3 battle plays out. Vote away...

    Outabounds #1:

    Underoos #2:

Chainsaw #1 for the win. The ship and cranes totally dominate everything around them including some of the buildings. It indeed shows big machinery. The ferris wheel is dwarfed. Don't like the composition on #3...seems like it's cut off at the bottom.

Freaks photo is totally opposite. It makes otherwise big machinery look tiny and it is all dwarfed by the landscape.

I think it's pretty safe for Willie to post up the next one, maybe even give us an extra weekend day to shoot for it

Seriously Willie, that shot absolutely kills.
Were you up on another structure when you took it?

In the interest of sheer curiosity, what is it about #3 that people like so much?

I'm curious too, time2climb. I honestly thought #1 would take it due to the perspective making the machines so dominant over all the other elements.

jm2e - No, I was on the ground. You're pretty limited in where you can go in the port area so I had to drive around and look for the best vantage points outside the restricted areas. Below is the original, un-processed image. I think you can understand why I cropped it the way I did for the final composition.

Thank you everyone who responded and voted~!!!

For me it was the texture in the shot. Kind of like going in for the kill before sundown.
After seeing the original, I am quite shocked at what processing has one for this shot.
    Nice work regardless.

That actually was taken right before sundown, maybe 10-15 minutes prior to the sun going below the Olympic Mts. The original is intentionally over-exposed. "Shooting to the right" to capture as much color information as possible.

The thing I liked about Chainsaw's #3 is the isolation. Standing against the blank blue sky creates an innate/imagined sense of scale/size that doesn't require any other element to interpret.

Chainsaw: I liked the gradation of the sky and the sunset light on the structures.
Thanks for posting the original. Your cropping and post-processing made the shot.

Thanks for this lesson. I'll need to remember it.
    I assume you shot RAW.
