    TECH TALK JONG.

    How was that?

So what, you cannot yet cast a flyrod? Live where there are fish? Go find your friendly neighborhood indepentant fly shop, shop for a nice starter rod kit and ask about casting lessons, clinics ect. I have taught a ton of people to be great casters and I don't have a teaching method per say, but them boys will hook you up. I once taught a girl high on acid to roll cast hoppers upstream and she caught fish after fish in about ten mintutes.

Cast in your back yard for few weeks and book a guide somewhere nice and tell him you are a beginner.

    It will come.

Some shops give free casting clinics. They are pretty willing most of the time to help you gets started, especially if you are spending money in their shop.

Nice! My first jong(MFJ), although probably not the first time I deserved it. I spent all my teen years in Idaho Falls, and was xcountry skiing in Island Home/aroung Henry's Fork all the time. I just had no money. The only issue with buying a rod is that I am occasionally ambidextrous. I fight southie, surf goofie, snowboard(ed, not anymore) goofie, skate goofie. I shoot better left handed. I have a feeling I will cast left handed, and don't want to drop the money on the setup without knowing for sure. I suppose a shop can help me feel this out. I am soooo stoked about this sport!

Most good reels can be set up either direction. I cast righty, reel lefty. Some other do it differently.

You in NorCal? If so shoot me a pm and lets talk. Orvis guiding tends to be the "b" team. Their free fly fishing 101 isn't a bad idea though.

Download and listen to the Orvis fly fishing pod cast. Tons of awesome info. Tom Rosenbauer knows what he is talking about.

Your location says SF, if so once a month the Golden Gate casting club, located in GG park, holds free casting instruction and free fly tying demos. As noted above, tons of free info online, no need to drop big $$ on the orvis camp.

I am looking at the camp as a chance to spend time doing something fun with my dad. We are on opposite sides of the tracks in so many areas, I am hoping this will be something that leads to more common ground. Hard to put a price on that. I am a twenty minute walk from the ponds in the park. Thanks! I am definitely planning on meeting up with that group.
