    FS/FT: Canon 40D (11k actuations)

Selling my backup 40D to get something smaller... here's a cut and paste of my POTN for-sale post. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Camera Model: Canon 40D

Body Condition: 9/10. Camera is a few years old but is in immaculate condition. I tried to capture as much detail as I could in the pictures- you can see that the hot shoe doesn't even show wear.

    Number of Shutter actuations: 11,xxx.

Sale Includes: Canon 40D body, Canon body cap, Canon strap, battery, charger, and all original contents aside from manual (you can download it from Canon's website)

    Price: $375 net

    Trades: Canon T2i

    Payments Accepted: Paypal

Reason for selling: Upgraded to a 5D for my main camera, want something smaller for my backup that will be used during ski season. I can provide recent images from the 40D if desired.

Nice, once you sell yours I've got the exact same body for sale (immaculate 40D with all original box/content + 2 extra batteries with 18k actuations for a wee bit cheaper). Hopefully the buyers come flying in.

Edit: Mine sold on Craigslist in a matter of hours... Good luck with your sale!

Something like the T2i, or maybe even a G1X.

T2i is minimal, sure- but it's also essentially the same price so it isn't costing me anything. Half a pound in weight and more in size isn't unnoticeable though.

Whats the difference between the t2i and 40D?
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

T2i is a Rebel body, smaller and lighter but still very functional and a very nice lcd screen. Totally different body, much smaller, not as nice or functional at the larger crop bodies like the 40d, 7d etx. The t2i has a newer better sensor that is essentially the same thing in a 7d but in practice it doesn't perform quite as nicely and has a tendency to blow shots out more on the bright end of the spectrum compared to a 7d from what I gather. Much better iso performance than the 40d has but the 40d has better autofocus outside of the center focus point.

I bought the T2i over the 40d because of ISO performance and I've been very happy with the camera. Even with the battery grip it isn't to heavy or burdensome on long hikes. Nice little unit.

40D is a solid camera...I can not believe how cheap it is selling for these days.

This is a great deal. You can't go wrong with a 40D.

Hey Steve, you ever used a Rebel body before?

The weight and size difference are definitely noticeable. It's nice having a heavy/light SLR quiver - I pick my 7D or my XSi based on how much weight I'm willing to carry / how big of a trip/tour I'm going on. You do end up losing about 1/3 - 2/3 stop in shutter speed on the slow end due to the lighter body of the camera - less weight to counteract and dampen the mirror flipping. Not an issue with LiveView of course.

Funny enough, since I've owned my 7D, I haven't printed many images that I've started hanging on my walls to replace prints from my XSi. I mean, the actual file quality, focus, autoexposure, dynamic range, noise - all dramatically better. I just haven't created any better images with it, except for a few skiing shots.

^^^ I picked up a used T1i to replace the 40D, and although I've only used it once so far, I like what I see. The control button layout is different than my 5D, but not different enough to be annoying. I only plan on using the T1i for skiing and biking shots, so the weight is the biggest factor for me... and it's definitely smaller and lighter.

Hopefully this weekend I'll take it out riding with me a couple times to see how it performs with action shots.
