Hey, I have a job opportunity in Whitefish/Big Mountain and am just curious what it's like living there (i.e. pro's and con's). I'm thinking of relocating from Chicago, so it'd be quite a departure from my regular life here. Grew up in Oregon, so I'm looking to get back west and need to be somewhere close to skiing. Anyhow, just curious what it's like up there..any advice would be great...thanks

I don't live there, but i do like the town. Cool little mountain town, right near the ski hill. The hill has pretty interesting terrain, if you like to tour, Glacier NP is right there. Snow is reliable, esp early season. There is a tendency to whiteout though. I wouldnt mind living there. Actually, if the choices were chicago or whitefish, whitefish would win every time.

Also, close enough to some of the interior bc resorts (fernie, red) for easy weekend and possibly even day trips.

Move to Whitefish

Get a pass at Fernie if you work during the week

Buy a sled for BC in MT

Don't get sucked into the booze scene at the Northern

Whitefish is pretty cool. Typical Montana mix of necks, dirties, and regular folks. I have a bunch of friends that make a decent living up there.
