The Official Don't Get Stuck in the Backcountry Ultra Jong thread

Tools and concepts to get started for the ultra jong, sandal wearing first timer that is thinking about climbing mountains in the snow on skis.

I didn't grow up in the snow. The thread should offer the collective advice and systematic approach to learning the common sense to climbing in the mountains on skis that will surely be contributed by the collective badass's here at TGR.

My first experience having to walk, travel and somewhat survive in snow was in a city. Ski Lifts which climb rad mountain ridges to slide downhill on snow, seem logical for a guy who grew up with Skateboard parks and Ocean waves pushing into shore.

This thread will be a massive dump to ask any questions, offer the details of a first time success or tell-tale fail; for in minor failure we learn not to major fail. I bet there are tons of cool TRs that don't get posted with some mtn men type of lessons to be learned.

I have my own questions, but I want to see the reception and direction of the multitude of tangents bound to emerge and then jump in mid party.

Learn to use a map and compass. When the batteries on your GPS go bad, you need to be able to navigate your way home the old fashioned way.

    Sick thread.

DasCunt should bring a GoPro when he goes backcountry. Just in case you spot someone pissing on the skin track you can film it, post it online and start a facebook campaign to get the guy fired from his job.
