My all around ski for next year will be the Volkl Karma 185's. I'm 6'2",205 lbs. Any suggestions as to where I should mount them? I want them for everything from powder to trees and I'm learning fakie as well. I was thinking a couple of cm forward. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I agree, the 177's are great. I had a great time on them but I'm just worried about them in the powder. Do you take them in powder and if so, do they do well? I tend to stay away from the park too.
went thorugh the same thing as you man - if you run a seach you see what people told me.
As for the result of what they told me:
I have 177 Karma mounted at Volkls suggested location, weigh 195 pounds and am 6'. They dive for me in deep pow (more than 4 or 5 in) and i find my self driving from the back seat compaired to my 185 pocket rockets. I love the boot center mount for all mountain sking, but they throw me slightly off balance in the air. Since the mounting location is a little far back to be square in the middle of the ski they tend to pull my body forward rather than an equal swing weight of typical park skis. Please note this center of gravity is only slightly forward of the suggested mount, so if you really want them to be park and better switch skis than mount +1.5 or so.
Since you stay out of the park this is not an issue. Riding switch with them is fun, but not like a park ski since there is more tip than tail.
you love them, mountem and skiem
I would not mount forward unless you are looking to ski them park. The volkl suggested location will sit you back far enought that you might not expreince the tip dive and lack of float that I have - especially with your longer length.
