    Question Calling All Utards!!!!

In two weeks (18th Feb) my Spouse, friends and I will be flying out to the great state of Utah for several days of skiing (THANK GOD, IT FACKING SUCKS HERE IN THE PNW). We will be staying at Wolf Creek Resort outside of PowMow.

We are currently in a debate over which mountains to hit over the 4 days we have. Two of the days are going to be spent, one at PowMow, and the other at Snow Basin.

So we have two days left, which 2 day combo would you hit? The finalists are (at this point, pending Mag approval): Deer Valley, Park City, and the Canyons... all of which appear to be about an hour and a half away, give or take.

If another resort- which you feel we need to add to the debate- is a bit further, we would be willing to go there.

    What say ye Utards!?!?!

EDIT: I am an idiot... Deer Valley not Deer Park... I knew that... Deer Park is a town north of Spokane. duh.

deer park? i think you're talking about deer valley but i don't know many resorts outside of the slc area. the parley's canyon resorts seem good for long groomers. i'd say give solitude, alta or snowbird a try if you want to ski off piste. the lift tickets won't break the bank like the parley's mnts either.

Wolf Creek Resort I believe is right outside of Eden, which is just south of Logan.

heh, it takes about 1.5 hours to alta on a good day from north ogden, and eden is about the same distance north as N.O., but in the ogden valley, so it's probably at least an extra 15 minutes because you don't get to drive on I-15/215 all the way to the cottonwoods.

Park City is closer than SLC from Eden, but if you're going to drive over an hour anyway, I'd go to alta/snowbird/solitude.

Also, I'd do powder on saturday... fewer crowds.

I would go to Solitude, Snowbird or Alta if you don't have any snowboarders with you. Diiscount lift tickets are easy to come by for any of these resorts at most ski shops. The drive is not any further than Park City and these there resorts are great.
If ski companies didn't make new skis every year I wouldn't have to get new skis every year.

You had to go there. Yeah, half of our party will be knuckle-draggin' snowboarders.

Are snowboarders no dice only at Alta or at others also?

What he said. If you plan on doing an Alta/Snowbird combo, let me know and we'll show you around a bit. I bet Woodsy' gang over at Solitude would do the same, pretty friendly group.

that puts Deer Valley out too - no boarding.

I'd say the Canyons, if for no other reason, to go into Park City after-
then solitude or snowbird as next choices.

Very cool. I'll be sure to see if anyone has change for a nickel. Seriously, I will see if any of you are available when we had decided where we are going to go.

It looks like the weekend will be PoW Mow, Snow B., and Mon & Tues are up in the air... pending Utardian advice.

    Hey Fubar!
Your Crystal pass should be good at Brighton, but as a former Utard myself-
    I'd say in this order...

    1) 'Bird
    2) Alta
    3) Solitude
    4) Canyons
    5) Brighton
    6) Deer Valley
    7) PCMR

you can buy discount tix in advance at Lift House (ski shop) behind the 7/11 at the base of Big Cottonwood. Or order some of them online at http://www.backcountry.com and have them shipped to WA

(I'm jealous, but it's good to know it will finally snow here when you are in utah )

I hope it freekin' snows while I am gone! When I get back I can head straight up to Crystal.

So does backcountry sell discounted lift tickets at all those places you mentioned? Jeezus! I am truly a JONG with this Utah trip!

I - it always go back to Powder Mountain - it's so down-home like Alpine Meadows, A-Basin, Loveland, etc. The whole family works there - it's one the few ski areas that is NOT located on National Forest land - it's all private property. If y'all are good enough, you can take the snowcat (or snowmobile) ride up Lightning Ridge - and it's not that much per ride (I think it's $10 for 1 ride). Pow Mt. is deserted - the biggest skier/boarder day is Saturday, where for four years since I've been there, there were below 250 people on the mountain. Some friends of mine and me went there four days after a major snowstorm, and we skied first tracks the whole day! You're lucky at Alta to get only three or four runs where you have first tracks - better get there early. It's a lot worse at Snowbird, but Solitude is worth it (no lift lines).

You ought to check out Snowbasin - decent steeps and some good powder - but it's kind of windy. If y'all go to Ogden, Canyon Sports has discount lift tickets to Powder Moutain and Snowbasin.

If y'all want to go to Brighton - it takes forever, I prefer Solitude better, but if 'it's powder day, Brighton is worth it - get there early - an hour or 30 minutes before lifts open.

I live about 30 minutes from where you are staying. Let me know when you get here, if I can't get out to ski or board, at least a few drinks maybe?

Sat for sure at Powmow, no crowds, Sundays rock at Basin, you dont want to miss that mountain.

If it dumps, I say 3 days at Basin, Sat at Powmow. Solitude is your next best for the combined group in my opinion. The place sucks!

A good friend of mine just got back from Basin today, and said it was sick! I will be sure to get a hold of you when we are "in country", and anybody else for that matter who wants to make some turns, and have beers after.

From what I am reading it looks like sticking around Pow and Basin, with a little Soli sprinkled in is the best way to go.

With what you described with people and 2 planks and one plankers, you are in the right direction. Flykdog is patrol at Basin and I will kick the red headed step child in the ass to make sure he gives you a good tour of Basin.

Wolf Creek is right damn near at the base of Powmow and not far from Basin at all, kinda a "local" locale. You can always mix it up on a whim anyway, based on the snow.

My best friend from HS and college is coming in and doing the SAME thing you are doing the 25th of Feb. They have the timeshare, so Wolf Creek worked.

    BUMP

It is just about game time and the band has left the field.

It looks like the Sat and Sun will be spent at POW and/or Basin. It is still in the air where we will be for Mon & Tues... most likely Soli or Canyons.

Anyone gonna be at the above areas on the said days? I would love to hook up and take a few turns with some of the fabled Utards... and maybe beers afterwards.

PM your ph# or let me know what channel you run on the radio; as I will most likely will not have access to a PC while in country.
