3 years post-doc experience looking to join the biotech world. Currently in the bay area ( and will probably find a job here), but would gladly move to anywhere that gets me closer to the mountains.

Second SLC. Try Myriad Genetics, Lab-Corps, Idaho Technology. I know IT is growing and hiring right now specifically and I could set you up with someone to talk to there to feel it out. She doesn't hire but can tell yo a lot about the company.

There's nothing better than sliding down snow, flying through the air
Seattle, lots of biotech companies.
Thanks so far.
Company names or direct knowledge of an opening would be appreciated.
I'm definitely looking more at a scientist group leader position or a senior research associate with an appropriate salary.
For Seattle and Vancouver areas, check out the list of companies at www.wabio.com
Waste your time, read my crap, at:
One Gear, Two Planks
thank for the link.
Check out Bend Research in Bend, OR. They are expanding their operation.

There's a few sites with lists of biotech companies you can try checking out. www.biopharmaguy.com www.thelabrat.com and then there's www.indeed.com, the search engine for jobs.

Home sweet home.
Hamilton, MT has both the Rocky Mountain Lab (NIH site) and GSK pharmaceuticals. Lots of nerds in the valley.
There's a biotech company right here in Ketchum, ID. Nice facility and I hear they treat their employees well.

Idaho Bioscience? You have any contacts you could send me in PM?
thanks
pretty curious if you have found anything. Left the bench last year and am now consulting. The downside is that I now live in JerZ. My angle is to find a way to become remote or independent and set up shop in a mountain town, since I pretty much gave up on finding biotech jobs in said locales.
No biotech, but you might want to check out USAP....United States Antarctic Program...that's the program that sends scientists down for 6 month stints in Antarctica. Place like McMurdo base, etc. I was on their short list for a rotation 6 years ago, then ended torquing my knee right before the summer season. Man, was I bummed!!....like an astronaut missing a shuttle trip.
Anyway, they've been ramping up their research down there due to global warming initiatives, including molecular biology. Experience in bacterial analysis would be a plus....that's what I was going to be going down there for. They've got a pretty well-equipped group of labs down there now. The adventure meter down there pegs out at hardcore....and beats the absolute hell out of some boring biotech firm. And the BC oppurtunities down there are otherworldly. I'm thinking very seriously about resubmitting for there. I've found out I'm still on the short list.
Unfortunately the hiring is no longer inhouse at the USAP headquarters in Wash DC...they've contracted out a lot of their hiring to military contractors oddly, and you have to start with this huge website. I bypassed that by still going directly to HQ in DC.
If interested....the USAP site is www.usap.gov
Rockwell Defense used to be their primary scientific hiring arm, but I think they've shifted to Lockheed Martin. However, you can also go through National Science Foundation at the NSF Office of Polar Programs (NSF OPP). Any way you can bypass the huge Lockheed Martin hiring PITA, the better. A very strong set of technical / quantitative references a must.

All brand-new too.
Not much happening. Seems the slow nature of scientific research made the Biotech market have a severe lag with the overall economy. When the economy really took a nose dive a few years ago there still seemed to be lots of openings. But in the past 6 months it seems to be really drying up. My guess is when money gets tight, new projects don't get started while investment in the ongoing projects still happens. Now we have projects that have run their 5 year course with no major discovery and they get cut. Problem is there are no new RandD projects. Add in a steady flow of unemployed scientist with risk adverse investors not putting money into the biotech field and you have the current situation.pretty curious if you have found anything. I keep hearing there are small startups popping up, but haven't found a good match yet.
^^ thanks, i was wondering if the grass was greener with a postdoc, but this is pretty much what I expected.
Makes me pretty grateful to be where I am now without one, but wouldn't mind being back in the lab..
Good luck man.
