If this thing hits the streets I wonder how much I'll be able to sell my D7000 + 16-85 for?

I'm going to be watching this one close. Hope they can keep the price down. I'll probably keep the D7000 though for a second body.
Looks like the upgrade to the D300 I've been waiting on...
Is built in GPS something people are asking for? I can't for the life of me think of a situation where I'd' use it.
We've won it. It's going to get better now. You can sort of tell these things.
Isn't the D7000 an upgrade over the D300?
Same here. I can understand it's use, but it's not something I'd ever bother with. According to the link I posted, it seems unlikely that feature will make it into this model. I'm more interested in it having a focusing motor for compatibility with older AF lenses.

interesting specs...
seems the 7000 becomes the flagship crop (for the time-being)
an fx that's lighter and faster (fps) then the 800 for $1500 bones seems pretty interesting...
I'm wondering what it isn't as good at considering this guy would seemingly cannibalize the 800 sales.
If this ends up being around $1500, I might have to switch from Canon. Damn.
from the link
I also have two corrections to make - the D600 will have a built-in AF motor and it will not have built-in GPS.

It already is...???? Nikon doesn't make a better crop body than the D7000 currently, and there are rumors of a D7100 coming along. Can't imagine they wouldn't do that, all they have to do is put the D3200 sensor in it.
Damned interesting. What it isn't as good at? Costing a fortune and generating insanely large RAW files.
I'm wondering just how well the D800 is selling. The buzz really seems to have died off quickly - I think a lot of people just really didn't see the point in it for what it costs. Nikon may have realized that they over-reached a bit with that one and are coming up with a way to Cannibalize Canon 5D sales.

Pictures leaked on nikonrumors.com. It's definitely an FX-sensor in a D7000-type body, not a D300/700 type body. Really not sure where this leaves the "pro-sumer" nikon's (D300/700), since the D800 is pretty much a new camera and not an update to the D700 as expected.
I dont think so, D300 has a better build, more buttons on the outside of the camera, just feels like a higher end camera to me. D7000 is a nice camera for sure with some incremental upgrades over the D300 sensor, but isn't enough of a total "upgrade" in my mind to warrant plopping down money & getting rid of my D300.
Seems like the weight of the D600 is closer to the D800 though...will be interesting how it feels in hand.

Is it just me or are Nikons model number schemes confusing as hell?
Brought to you by Carl's Jr.
I dunno, more confusing than Canon? Thing is, being a Nikon enthusiast I know what all the models are and what the numbers mean. Don't really know about Canon and why there's a Rebel line, a xxD line and an xD Mk this or that line. I'm betting the Canon guys have all that stuff nailed down.
So probably just a matter of perspective.
I do have to say though, that calling this new camera a D600 doesn't make a lot of sense to me. We've already had a D700 and it has been upstaged by the D800. This new camera will also upstage the D700 in terms of performance, though the body is smaller and pretty much the same as the D7000. I'm surprised they don't call it the D8000, that would make more sense to me.

performance-wise, the 7000 probably passes the 300 in most categories but I would have figured the "300-replacement" would have been a pro-level crop...
of course the 7000 is weather-sealed, and magnesium cased and they must be happy with its performance, I know I love mine and it seems a lot of "pro" folks have one for their crop body now.
naming this new rig the 8000 would make even less since as that scheme would put in right in line with the other dx bodies, moniker-wise.
Steve's (and Zesty's) posts sound like a very possible marketing plan, try to grab a lot of the 5d folks from Canon.
I'm in no hurry to get another camera but whenever I get the itch, I'm interested to see what that current of this rumored body is...
Good point. I was thinking of it in terms of body size/type. the D3xxx and D5xxx bodies are the little, plastic consumer bodies. The D7000 defines a new type of body for Nikon, somewhere in between the little guys and the "full sized" Dxxx bodies. I wasn't thinking about it in terms of DX vs FX sensor sizes since the D300 & D700 use basically the same body and have the same numbering scheme. Since this new camera appears to use the same body as the D7000, I figured it might run with the same number scheme, just be a higher number to define that it's a higher-end camera. If the D300 can be a crop sensor and the D700 is FX, why can't a D7000 be a crop and a D8000 (or even D9000 to further set it apart) be an FX? Any way you slice it, calling it a D600 is confusing to me, as if it's a step down from the D700 when by all measures (other than the size/type of body) it will be an upgrade though probably cost less.
I do like the feel of the larger Dxxx bodies in the hand better than my D7000, but the fact that the D7000 is smaller and lighter makes it much easier to carry in the field and that advantage outweighs the better feel for me. I realize that not everyone carries a DSLR when skiing or backpacking for a week off-trail, so my view on it may not be very popular.
