I hadn't been out in the BC since sometime before we got tropically punched about two weeks ago and was keen to get out and have a look around. So, I rounded up a partner (HJC) and we headed out to one of our local haunts to check the conditions and scope some lines for future missions.
We weren't really expecting to ski anything considering the current conditions in the East Kootenays, but figured our best chance of finding good snow would be as high as possible on North facing slopes.
The unbreakable crust we encountered on the approach made for excellent travel conditions and we found ourselves at the back of the basin in no time. It was still before noon and we were staring up at some big north facing lines that looked like they just might have some decent snow in them:
So HJC twisted my rubber arm and we decided that the only way to really see how the snow was would be to start climbing:
Lo and behold, the snow at the bottom of the chute was acceptable so we started up it with the caveat that if either one of us (more likely me) started feeling wigged, then we'd back off and call it a recon day.
Well, the snow just got nicer and nicer the higher we went and we ended up climbing the whole thing and having an awesome run back down. We got whited out for the top half so most of my pics are from the lower half:
It was definitely sweet to get some real skiing in on a day where we didn't really expect to do anything more than have a look around.
