I'm leaving tomorrow with no plans. Where should I go?

Fuck it. Going for one week atleast, maybe two. Willing to drive just about anywhere the fishing is good. Can't hike much due to my bum ankle, otherwise all reccs will be considered.

Generally southern Colorado. Thinking so co to Utah to Wyoming ( Montana too maybe?) then back down the front range. Just not sure what is fishable right now.

Yeah, the Front Range is where it's at.

When's the last time you looked at a river? I don't think there is a river in western North America that is unfishable right now, 'ceptin because of low water maybe.

Pretty much everything in Montana except tailwaters and spring creeks is chocolate milk right now.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Are you bringing a 1 man boat of any sort? Are you a lake angler? You'll find some excellent early season lake fishing in UT, ID, WY, and MT right now. There are a number of lake/res options btwn CO and MT you can fish from shore. A boat will help the cause but not totally necessary.

There are rivers in WY, ID and MT that are fishable now and getting better by the day but they are few and far btwn. Most freestones around the Tetons are toast for a bit. The Jellystone opener should find the Firehole fishing. Maybe a couple others. That could certainly be a destination. Plenty of lakes to play in around this region too.

Make sure to hit the South San Juans. I'm thinking the Conejos, and a bunch of tributaries. From there I'd jump up through Creede, hit the Rio Grande and some of its tributaries. Go over Slumgullion Pass, and hit the Lake Fork of the Gunnison, and pm me for a stellar high altitude lake for amazing cutts. From there head up through Gunni to the Taylor for browns, and some of its tribs for eager brookies.

There, you have a weeks itinerary.
