    Squaw vs. Steamboat

I need to get out of here soon. I have two choices, Squaw or Steamboat. It will be the last wknd. in Feb and I have a free place to stay both places. I have skied Squaw, I have never been to Steamboat. I will be hitting up Squaw at the end of March for sure as well. Should I wait for weather reports and hope I can get a cheap ticket a week out or should the choice be clear?

I'd just check the weather report a few days before and make a decision on that. If you can't do that, go to Steamboat because you've never been there and you are going to Squaw later anyway. It's a no brainer!

I'd wait. Only go to the Boat if there's snow in the forecast.

Are you fucking kidding me? Do you have eyes? If so, try opening them, and then looking at a trail map from both places. If you are still confused, take a look at all the killer ski movies that have come out of Steamboat (um, NONE) and then try those shot at Squaw (where do I start? Blizzard of Aaahs, Walls of Freedom, 1999, Breathe, every Ski Movie from MSP, several other stump classics, RAP Films, I could go on but I'm boring myself).

If you're still not sure, then go to Steamboat, you'll love the acres and acres of glade skiing there.

Those movies don't mean squat if you aren't capable of skiing any of those lines.

Yeah, I'm sure the terrain at Squaw is better than Steamboat, but Steamboat is fun when conditions are right. Especially for someone a notch or two down from rockstar level.

So has Steve Winter (The Hedonist)

The only thing that would make me pick Steamboat over Squaw would be conditions.

Whoa, easy Liger...yeah terrain is what I was wondering about. I try to stay off the groomers as much as possible. I don't know about rockstar status but I like my steeps, chutes, and hucks. That makes sense because the guys going to the 'boat like to spend mucho time in the park.....not this kid, I get enough park action here. Plus, my buddy in Tahoe has a better knowledge of the area, maybe get in a BC day too.... Thanks for the info....

if it was a "Quien es mas macho" contest, Squaw would win hands down.

if you've never been to Steamboat, and already plan on going to Squaw in March, I'd say give Steamboat a shot. It's got a lot of good blue square terrain and classic all-time trees, that one-of-a-kind Colorado atmosphere, and Strawberry Hot Springs (just outside of town).

of course, if you're a off-piste hucker, Squaw is more your style.

switch it up. variety is the spice of life.

Sorry, man, too much coffee this AM...skiing s fun, no matter where or how you do it.

If you're looking for that kind of terrain (steeps, chutes, hucks, billygoating), definately come out here. In fact, I'd be stoked to meet up with you guys and show you around Squallywood. You just won't find much of that at Steamboat.

I've been to both, and Squaw definately gets my vote.

Steamboat was alright for me when I was there. Sure it did have great trees, but I found it lacking anything that I would truly define as gnarly. The part of Steamboat that was the most extreme was comprised of short chutes that deposited you on total flatland leaving you no choice but to traverse/hike out.

The backside was pretty cool, open with some trees, but was pretty flat with a short ride before you were back on the lift.

The town of Steamboat, however, kicks ass. And, the Strawberry hot springs experience is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Go Squaw. Big, gnarly, and totally rocking.
