Panniers?

Anybody ride with these on extended trips. The look to be the way to go compared to a backpack. Any advice on what to get (I have very little money) anybody want to sell me anything?

Jandd Mountaineering makes reasonably priced bombproof stuff. Search on eBay, you can usually find some used bags and good deals.

If you're poor, put on a rear rack (the Delta Mega Rack is flattest and works best) and bolt a milk crate to it.

Or, if you're feeling flush, buy a file box from Staples or Home Depot, which will be waterproof, weigh a lot less than Ortliebs, and cost $9.

It'll last longer if you put some foam in between the box and the rack: I recommend an old mouse pad that's too gross to use anymore. Or you can buy a new one for $3.

can you fit sleeping bags or tents in these?
