I’ve sold and traded a boatload of phones. Never any issues trading, but had some shitty buyers when selling. That extra few bucks you get from a private sale disappears when you have to cover return shipping, etc. Unless there’s a significant difference in return, I don’t think it’s worth the headache.
The other advantage to trading is that you have a company you can bug to make it right. Keep calling until you get a rep that’ll help you out.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
It's not their original offer that is the problem (although it was lower than I could have sold it for privately). It's that after I sent it in, they changed the amount claiming that there was "damage" that didn't exist.
True. But from everything I have gathered and seen, Fi has terrible customer service.
I guess no path is perfect. I'm just pissed that I sent a like new phone in and got dinged on my trade in amount for imaginary damage. It's fraud, but on a small scale with little recourse.

Is it just me or has it gotten to be more of a pita to control exactly what makes your phone ding? I upgraded to Android Pie lately. The only things that I want making noise and vibrations are calls, sms, WhatsApp, and Hangouts (most of my calls and SMS). I want visual only for the rest of it. And unfortunately I need all of the above to work 24x7. No DND for me. I just can't find the same level of control I had a few versions back.
Go to settings/notifications. It lists all the apps you can silence them individually.

On screen notifications. I haven't seen a phone with a blinking light in quite some time. Turn off all but on screen.

That's retarted. I use Hangouts because I have Fi and integrated the two. And I don't always have my Fi SIM in my phone. I don't do video chat. I use it for SMS and voice. Fi is the ONLY way to travel international. Such a good deal. And boy howdy am I glad I have it when I go to Canada.
I got new iPhone SE for $100. I like it. It’s small but so far enjoying the convenience and utility and I like the retro style.

Ok, that was a chore. To get what I want, I had to set the default notification sound to none. Then go into dialer, sms, Hangouts, and WhatsApp to change the notification sound from default (which is now none) to the sound of my choice. This was all working the way I wanted before I upgraded to Pie. Grumble. Now hopefully will my phone will stop chirping at me for stupid things I don't want to hear about, only see at a time of my choosing.
FML. There's something thAt still goes ding that shouldn't. WTFF??? It doesn't show up in the list of recent app notifications. Next step is to disable Nova Launcher and see if that is hiding anything. This is driving me nuts. I can't have the phone dinging at night and I can't just shut it off or use DND. Fuct.

Any case that is going to offer at least a bit of protection from the phone being dropped is going to add some thickness. I have picked up a number of cases- name brands like Otterbox (Commuter or Symmetry also are thinner), Spigen, Incipio, Trident, and even cheap China knock offs for phones. It really depends on the phone you carry and if you just want a cheap skin that will not protect from more than a few inches drop or if you really want protection for your device. I usually pick up a Otterbox case on sale or on Ebay for no more than $15 to $20. I just got another Samsung and searching Ebay for Defender cases I am also seeing knock off cases (brand listed is Unbranded not Otter) that look just like the Otter- again probably some knock offs that do not have the Otter logo.
Seems you are complaining that you can't have protection that does exist- I have a suggestion for you- maybe stretch a condom around your phone, no added thickness (relatively depending on the brand of condom - avoid ribbed and colors) and it would cover all the ports too....
I try.

Well, I'm back in the market for a new phone after years of getting by with my Moto G4. I bought it as a temporary phone after I broke my old one and ended up using for years since it turned out to actually be pretty decent primarily for its excellent battery life. Needless to say I'm pretty unspoiled so my Moto has made me realize that I don't need super high end specs. Anyway, I thought I'd ask the collective what's up these days? Been shopping at local cell suppliers like the Verizon stores and Best Buy and been pretty disappointed with what I"m seeing. Funny how those big Verizon stores have like 3 phones to look at and the one I might be interested in is one of those stupid dummy displays with the printed on screen. Lol. Anyway, these are my top priorities:
- OS: Android, and as close to bone stock as possible. I freaking hate the redundant apps and silliness that Samsung, LG, etc. pack in there. Can you say Bixby?
- Screen: SMALL-ish. I'm tired of the phablet trend. My Moto G4 is too big. My old Moto X (1st gen) hit a real sweet spot, even if that was on the larger side of comfortable for me.
- Battery Life: Must be excellent. I can often go a couple days without charging. I'm spoiled in this regard. I'd hate to be one of those people tethered to a charger. Especially when traveling.
- Storage capacity: 32GB internal would be fine, but expandable storage via microSD is a must. My current phone is 16GB and apparently the OS has become so over-bloated that it's taking up like half of it. I don't even have that many apps installed and it's always bugging me to clear up space since it's out of room.
- GPS: Must work reasonable well. Mine is garbage on my phone. Never works right. I do a lot of travel for work, so this is a must.
- USB-C: Because Micro-USB is old and crappy.
From what I'm seeing out there, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is the one that checks the most boxes for me, but I'm seeing enough reviews stating questionable battery life and odd GPS results that I have to take pause. Also not familiar with its OS overlay and wonder how close to stock Android it is. I'm probably willing to from $200-500 for a new phone but not willing to spend a grand like all the flagships. Wish Google still had a reasonably priced phone like the old Nexus was. That series was great and relatively inexpensive to boot. Too bad they've gone full Apple since, with the current Pixel series. Liked what I saw at the store, but like $800+? Lol nope. Anyway, what am I missing? I'm sure there's GOT to be a phone out there that fits the bill, right?
Pixel 3 checks all your boxes but is expensive. And I've been having trouble with mine, probably going to need it warrantied, but I like it otherwise.

Moto G7 is coming out... Plus tgeres deals on the X⁴. $199 for the 64gb. Don't get the 32gb. Now, I am not totally sold on the phone, I have a 32 version. And it's old now so Android 9.0 is prolly the end of the line. However, if my phone broke today, 3 to 1 chance I'd get a 64gb and call it a day.
Man, it really does, except on price. Phone feels really nice. I think. Was tough to tell with those stupid tethers that Best Buy has on them. Haha. Very premium phone, though. What's wrong with yours?
Yeah, the Motos are really good on pricing and are always a superb value. After having one, it's really tough to want to spend much more. They're a ton of phone for the money. Too bad they've gotten so freaking bulky, though. Even the smallest ones. I miss my 1st gen Moto X. That was a cool device. Especially with how customizable they were with the "Moto Maker" website. Made in America too! Felt like a fairly premium phone for $200.
