Looks like a game changer!
Holy shit that wasn't a joke. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...shopping-list-
I bought the S6 Active. Waterproof, plastic, bigger battery. Pretty much what I need considering my track record with broken phones. And yeah, it works as a phone, it texts, email and it will snap a picture. Bells and whistles I do not need, but I'm sure this has several.
So you're saying the S6 is not a minirobot? Take a lap.
^^ Too big. I recently got the Kyocera Dura Force, this thing is tough as shit. I've watched it bounce down two flights of metal stairs and land in a puddle without getting a scratch, not even a nick in the corner. Battery life is acceptable, the Android version it has seems to work well enough and other than being a little bit on the heavy side the size is good.
That looks pretty good. Yeah, the size takes a bit to get used to. Stupid thing is super skinny and was falling out of my pockets constantly. I thought about a case, but threw some thin strips of skate grip tape on the back of the body instead, which worked perfectly.
I would think a place like TGR the priority for the phone would be how bomber it is, but then again there's a bunch of posers in the padded room.
My Gen1 Moto G got to the point where it wasn;t all that useful anymore. I replaced it with a Gen3 Moto G which I like a whole lot better. Big screen. I just ordered the latest Moto E for my daughter as the iPhone 4s that was waterfalled from my wife is majorly shitting the bed.
I see hydraulic turtles.
Snagged a used, like new galaxy s5 for $250. Pretty happy w it as a lower cost upgrade from iphone 5s.
Never mind the phones, how is T-Mobile these days? So sick of getting gouged by Verizon.
Thank me later .... https://fi.google.com/about/
Looks to me like the perfect model. I sent a request for an invite. Pay for what you use. No charges on your own wifi. My verizon contract is up in Jan and they're gonna charge me an extra $240/year because I have unlimited data. Fuck em.
Hrm. Looks like T-Mobile with unlimited data is $80. for one line and that ^^^plan at $20/mo + $10/gb would be more expensive after 6 gb's. Do I use more than 6 gb's? No, but I try to keep it down because Verizon rapes me. Not sure what is better. Seems like F1 should have better coverage (?).
Do you use wifi in your house(s)? You obviously spend a lot of time near a computer, so I bet with a little effort you could get your monthly data usage numbers down. Then if you want a month where you use 6Gb the plan flexes for you. It's like high-deductable health insurance where the datum are healthcare expenses. If you use a lot you pay for a lot. If you don't, they refund you in 100Mb increments.
Gotcha, thanks for the heads up.
Sprint/Boost
$35 for 2gb + unlim text / minutes
$45 for 5gb
$55 for 10
On $45 plan now, down from a $88 plan w At&t. Happy so far, rural coverage is bad but living in a valley like slc it's fine.
I know I sound like a fanboi, but I actually think the Fi name is not the best thing. While they do make extensive use of open wifi networks, they will seemlessly use Sprint and T-mobile (not verizon) where no wifi is available. Plus you own the phone and can re-use it essentially on any other network if you leave Fi. No contract either. Fuck Verizon.
Didn't they used to have a different name? "Clear" or something?
edit: nope, Clear was another one. Owned by Sprint now.
Wouldnt there still be a lot of annoying logins w fi? Seems like a good direction just early.
According to the site ...
"There are lots of Wi-Fi hotspots out there but not all of them are high-quality. Project Fi automatically connects you to more than a million free, open Wi-Fi hotspots we've verified as fast and reliable. This technology helps keep your speed high and your data bill low—whenever you're on Wi-Fi, you're not charged for data usage."
Huh, suppose they could piggyback and authenticate in the background for providers they have commerical agreements with. Sniff something in the request, flag it to bypass typcal user id/pw and log in seamlessly like your phone does at home each day.
Often when wifi is available I don't bother if it requires more than one step.
I think the point is that the end user won't know when you're on or off a wifi network. That much is clear from their strategy. They want us to believe that free wifi is significant enough to lower normal data usage via towers. That probably depends on what you do and where you go with your phone.
Right, it makes a big difference for me, dont use much data out and about.
