I'd go for the HTC since their android skin seems the best to me (and cuz I don't do i-anything). But if you like apple products then get the 5c.

Wife set a pot on my trusty 4 year old Galaxy s2 tonight. Phone works; no screen though. Need a new phone 1st thing in the AM. Called TMO; no iPhone deals, tough to swallow $650. New Galaxy arriving any day; too big. Rep pushed the Samsung Galaxy Avant. $100 after $50 mail in rebate.

Any suggestions for phone that is no bigger than an iPhone 6 (still like to put phone in pocket). I use ~1GB data/mo and basically use my phone for talk, text, Exchange and some random surfing while bored. I use camera a lot too.

I miss the good old days of big contracts; when you called for phone upgrade they basically bent over to cut you a great deal to stay. No more.

A phone first thing in the morning is the kicker. It is already morning. These days I am a fan of buying my own phone outright and taking it to whatever carrier I want. That's no good if you are on Verizon. Since you wrote "TMO" I am guessing you meant "T-Mo" so that means GSM which is better. As mentioned earlier I have a 1st Gen Moto G and I like it. It was $199 direct from Motorola. Unlocked. It truly belongs to me not some carrier. It is only 3G. However, Motorola has some new versions of the X and G, plus they came out with the E. And they just released the E in 4G. The 2nd gen G has a 5" screen. Not sure if they are going to come out with a version of it in 4G like they did for the 1st gen G. There was just a $100 off special from Motorola on the X+1 which makes it more affordable to buy outright. The deal might come around again. Check them all out. One downside though of Motorola is the camera. Not stellar. I personally don't care. Some people do. An upside of the E is that its almost worth buying the old one at $129 or the new one at $149 to have as a spare phone for just such emergencies. That scheme works best if the SIM cards are the same size as used in your daily driver. It saved me as my Moto G is the global version that I purchased for a Euro trip and then to have as a backup. [I really only get 3G in my home area anyway and I am not on T-Mo so the different frequencies didn't bother me.] The switch from my dead phone to this one was instantaneous.

A friend of mine is a wireless analyst and he mentioned the OnePlus. He said VG phone @ ~$300 but I don't see it at any physical stores.

I m just going to bend over & let the ghost of Steve slip it in me today. Last phone I had lasted four years; the 6 will do the same.

So the other reason I buy the cheaper phones for me is that my wife has the iPhone habit. She just got a 6 and it allows her to not have to always grab her reading glasses. Instead of buying it outright I did the Next plan from our carrier [AT&T]. Basically 0% financing. But still a locked phone. Grrr.

Got one. really like it a lot. Still hate all the bloatware on it taking up space on the internal drive, but got a Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC for $33. Kicks ass.

S6 is listed as not having removable battery, addon storage, and not waterproof (but maybe still water resistant). I blame Samsung for being cheap and just going along with the overpriced underfeatured popularity of Apple products.
Apple. Get less for more! The edges are rounded and there are no buttons! Buy it, asshole!

My roommate got an S5, it's awesome, but I wish it was a little smaller, honestly. No S5 mini for Verizon, and they chintz out on the hardware for that. There's a smaller Motorola, but I wouldn't get it unless they've improved they're camera (so many pictures are blue and blurry), and their interface. I think battery life and signal and whatnot is about the same. And splash and water resistant. And you assholes flamed me for saying this was a necessary feature when the Droid came out. You should be able to drop your phone!!

As a guy who now has to wear reading glasses I love the bump in size when I moved from an Iphone5 to the GalaxyS5

My wife went from a 4s to the 6. Doesn't need her readers with the 6 set on large icons.

Great phone the OnePlus. Have to get an invite to buy or hit the once a week (Tuesdays) open sales. This phone runs cyanogen software not pure android. Have to make sure your carrier has the phones codes in their db though or it won't work.

Again downfall seems no removable battery. Thats a pet peeve of mine. Batteries have a finite life cycle. I like my phone to last way more than 2 years.

    I'm not old.

    King Arthur: Old woman!
    Dennis: Man.
King Arthur: Man, sorry. What knight lives in that castle over there?
    Dennis: I'm 37.
    King Arthur: What?
    Dennis: I'm 37. I'm not old.
King Arthur: Well I can't just call you "man".
Dennis: Well you could say "Dennis".
King Arthur: I didn't know you were called Dennis.
Dennis: Well you didn't bother to find out, did you?
King Arthur: I did say sorry about the "old woman", but from behind you looked...
Dennis: What I object to is you automatically treat me like an inferior.
King Arthur: Well, I am king.
Dennis: Oh, king eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.

It's seasonal. It's at most places that other Genny products are in. Mostly Buffalo to Syracuse area
