    This Old House

What an awesome show. I took a two year sabbatical from the white collar world and worked in home remodeling. This show is dangerous. Their acumen, resources and editing make a bathroom remodel look like a fart in the wind. This show is residential remodel porn and make projects look dangerously easy. Anybody else dig this show?

I love it. I soooo wish they'd come over, fix my house, help me get skinny, and teach me how to brew.

It's a good show, but it's not exactly breaking news. It's been on tv for at least 20 years now.

Seriously. Remember when Bob Vila was the host? He LEFT in 1989!

the magazine printed an apology this month because last month they had an advertisment with a bikini clad women in a photo.
enough midwest christians complained that the editors felt an apology was needed.

I've done some work for and with the TOH crew and their language is very un-PBS... kinda funny and refreshing, but not what I expected.

Ask This Old House is pretty cool. TOH has gotten way too pricey and ritzy.

I dunno, man, they have to keep it interesting and high-dollar remodeling is a shitload more interesting than drywalling a rec room or some shit every week. The expensive materials and appliances and whatnot and the solutions they come up with for technical problems are what make it worth watching.

I loved it when Normy went out on his own with the New Yankee Workshop. Those were days ...

Bob Villa just joined my in-laws club in Flahrida. Sat at the next table over from him for Easter lunch. True story.

Let's get real- those old houses they are working on are already $1mm plus. You don't do cheap remodels to houses that valuable.
I think back in the old days they used to actually refurb the houses. Now, it seems like they do more modernizing while maintaining somewhat of an original feel.

That show was (is?) ridiculous. Like anyone watching has the tools/toys to do what Norm was doing.

Great show. Comes on three or four times over the course of a weekend and I'm never sure which show is the most recent. The main landscaping guy looks like he can knock a few back.

Ha, I've loved that show since I was a kid. I hold them fully responsible for the 160 year old moneypit of a farmhouse I am sitting in right now. Don't get me wrong, I love our house but we could have built our own ski area in the back yard for what it costs to restore the place and its a fairly small House. I met Norm and Silva a couple of years ago and told them just that....they had a big laugh and Silva said "get in line...your about the 500th person with that same complaint" Funny guys!

Love it. Other than Good Eats, its the only television program I can consistently come away from watching feeling like I learned something legitimately useful. Just watched an episode of AskTOH before stopping in here and I'd put good money on me watching another before the weekend is over.

so how was working with Norm? Seems kinda like a quiet guy to me, but knows his skill inside and out.

supposedly they did my house back in the early 80's. Converted 1860's job into 2 units. my only question is why did they leave the fucking knob and tube, cost me a heli trip for me and my wife to have it done before we moved in. I think the ginger guy is from my town.
    and I like the show.

2nd Mate, that is cool, but funny. I guess that was in the early days.

Norm is the real deal. Awesome guy. More embarrassed by his fame, than anything.

They are all serious working men, running many jobs in unison. Of course, the PR does not hurt business.

As far as the pricey overhauls they now do, I agree, it's entertaining and the stuff I usually work on. I just respect the dudes who pull things together on limited budgets (ie- mine).

Fine Homebuilding is a bit more down to earth, but I still love TOH.

We used to play a game in college where we had to drink a beer every time Norm used wood glue. The show where he built the slant front desk almost became a medical emergency for my 150# roommate.
