Where to go, where to stay...SLC or Tahoe?

    Hey,

A lurker finally sacking up and posting!!

Planning a trip with the wife (who's only skied 5 days, but is ripping) and trying to decide on where to go for a vacation at the end of Feb (23 -28)...
The places I'm considering are Tahoe, SLC, and Telluride...

Unfortunatley I live in the desert right now Phoenix...but Snowbowl (in my home town of Flagstaff) currently has a 100" + base and I've been able to get 15 days in so far this season so not that bad. Anyway, I'm looking for a place that has cheap flights...therefore SLC and Tahoe via Reno are on the list. I have a friend who has a condo in Telluride and if I can score that, that's where we'll be going...but it's not looking too promising right now.

So WWMD? It's about the same price in terms of flights to Reno vs. SLC. I figure Tahoe may be a little more wife-friendly, but I figure it might be cheaper to stay in Sandy.

If we go to Tahoe, what hotels are both relativly cheap, close to skiing, and near the bigger casino / resorts? (probably asking too much). Rent a car or shuttles?

How about SLC? Any shuttles from Sandy or would I need to rent a car? Anything besides skiing to do in mormon country?

Finally, quality of the skiing (not trying to start a debate, just need some info as although I've skied most of the CO resorts, my experience is lacking in other regions). Obviously I'm looking for the pow, but still want a fun place to ski even if Ullr doesn't want to cooperate. And a place with a good selections of intermediate terrain for the wife would be ideal.

Damn, that's a long post for a simple question, guess that's what I get for fucking around on the internet this late at night.

If you've made it this far, any suggestions would be appreciated...also, if this trip pans out, it would be sweet to get some turns in with some local maggots at either place...

    Thanks

Check here for some info on Tahoe:http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=24101.

Also, check around Truckee, which is 12 mi from Alpine?Squaw and 10 from Sugar Bowl.

I saw an ad for a 69 per person ski/stay in Alpine Meadows. You might want to call on that.

All you have to do is ask for change for a nickel in line; never know who you might meet.

do you like to drink and party apres-ski??? no contest there. tahoe blows uber-conservative utah away. for a mtn that would give both you and your wife the diverse terrain you're looking for, heavenlys got tons of cruisers and a fair amount of challenging terrain and kirkwood and the major north shore resorts are def worth checking out as well. lots of affordable lodging in the south shore at both casinos (lakeside inn is the coolest and cheapest if not the ritziest) and lots of mom and pop motels. i've never skied utah, but obviously it kicks ass so i can't speak from experience there. as for fresh powder for your visit, too tough too call right now. either way you can't go wrong.
