On behalf of the Friends of Berthoud Pass I'd like to extend an enormous thank you to Halsted Morris for leading three avalanche discussions for us this winter.
When we came up with the idea we weren't sure if we could pull it off. Due in no small part to the extraordinary efforts of countless people, we did.
We're thrilled at the level of interest and level of avy education that people are bringing to the Berthoud backcountry and will continue to do all we can to ensure that the level of safety and awareness among users of The Pass remains as high as possible.
We'll be organizing more avy clinics for next winter and if you or someone you know would like to help out in any way, please let us know.
Additionally, we're in the conceptual stages of offering a similar summertime clinic on basic outdoor first aid. Most of the FOBP on-snow facilitators are OEC, WFR or EMT certified and we'd like to share that expertise with as many people as possible. Any advice, guidance or suggestions on this idea are highly encouraged.
There's a lot happening at The Pass right now and we'll keep you posted on new developments. Until then, if you see Hacksaw and his enormous smile out and about, take a second to remind him how grateful we are for his support and tutelage. (<--- cool word nobody ever uses!)
