I've have the Audiovox 8mile FRS/GRMS radio it works very well except the key lock doesn't keep it from going into weather mode or send.Originally Posted by Plakespear

They cost, but there damn rugged and they have better range then any of those crappy little ones you get at walmart or bestbuy.
why bother shelling out for a kenwood when the other person won't have that "legendary kenwood audio"
just get a Motorola 1W or go for the real thing and buy a 2m/70cm HT and get your amateur ticket
most people will have a PoS 0.5W midland or whatever wallyworld sells

Thanks
needed features: A good key lock, mine's really been pissing my off.
That's stops it changing channels in your pocket right? I pretty much hate fancy features and stuff. I just want to be able to turn it on and talk. Nothing else needed.Originally Posted by Lurch
The better TX and RX of the radio along with the better Ant. (It comes with a 1/4 wave) means that it work better with any radio, not just other Kenwoods. I have tested this and you can really tell. In some cases my radio is rx clear when a buddy on the same chair is getting nothing on this POS.Originally Posted by Summit
I don't mind paying a little more for something that works well and is build right.
I just got a pair of cheapo Motorola Talkabouts from radioshack, would usually not guy Motorola since I know it's overpriced but it was on sale for a good value. Works well enough at the resort (have tested opposite sides/elevations at Louise/Sunshine) and it works except for no line of sight at long distance (frontside near top of Platter at Louise to base of Larch). Charge seems to last 3-4 days of skiing with moderate use. So much better than "I'll meet you at the top of this chair at XX hours" or "meet at this chair after this run" or "why are you standing there waiting for me I blew by you 2minutes ago"
