real fast: devloping b&w prints (powder shots)

so I just developed some film with some powder shots and they seem to be really low contrast like one where all you can see is the guys hat. I'm thinking super cranked down F stop on the projecter and a #4 filter then dodge out the guys head to try and get the snow flying up...

    Any advice?

and I know Tech Talk but this is urgent (I'll delete it in a hour after I do my prints)

Do you have a darkroom in your house and a hot date in a few minutes, or did you actually run from your HS photo class to the computer lab to post this? Quick! My hall pass expires in two and a half minutes!!!
You look like I need a drink.

My freshman year of high school I got to second base in the revolving door deal of the darkroom, so keep your mind open- strange things happen in dark places.

edit: wait a second, you went to an internet forum at a girl's house? the hole just keeps getting deeper.

id use a big filter and just try burning and dodging, even on different parts of the snow dependin on the contrast the flying snow has with the sitting snow

50 days on snow is core for being in HS....do you get shitty grades?

i have like 55 or 60 so far this season...but i have had alot of downtime since school ended on 12/10 and i just started my job about 10 days ago, and i get to ski everyday...

what kind of camera do you use?

use a high grade filter for the areas that need more contrast and a low grade filter for the areas that don't. basically, work from either either end of the contrast spectrum and meet in the middle.

afterwards, dodge and burn the image as needed. if you need some texture, flash the paper for a sec with the f-stop closed down.

Are you at least shooting with a polarizing filter on your camera AKPM?

I looked at the prints you posted. Weren't they printed from colour negs? I think I saw the colour originals. If you are printing onto B&W with colour negs then you are on a hiding to nothing - it is pretty much impossible to get nice results. You'd do better scanning the negs and photoshopping them. IMO Those prints are about as well-done as you could hope for in those circumstances.

If you want nice B&W pics, especially snow ones you need to shoot with a decent B&W film. I always had good results with Kodak T-Pan or T-Max or something. Don't know what camera you are using but it is very importrant to get the right exposure, moreso for snow than anything else. you might also find red filters give greater contrast.

    Hope this helps.

BTW I think taking shots, developing and printing B&W yourself is a great thing to do. Incredibly rewarding when yoiu first see that perfect shot appearing before your eyes in the bath.
