I seem to recall that Abbey's George Hayduke character was raised LDS. Was Gary Peacock a Mormon?

It's actually Doug Peacock, who's originally from Michigan and I'm pretty sure not LDS. I think the LDS character in The Monkey Wrench Gang was Seldom Seen Smith who was based on Ken Sleight.
