    TR: Basin Mtn 1.22.05

Here are picts from our attempt up Basin Mtn on Saturday with Bullet, Tarkman(I think thats his board name), skier(some-combo-of-numbers), and Mrs. Comish.

I will let Bullet et all add their color commentary later. Unfortunately the summit wasn't achieved. Ran out of partners due to the unplanned extra 4ish miles and 1000 to 2000 vertical because of the low snowlevel on the road. A great time was had. Beautiful day in the Eastern Sierras.

We think we accomplished somewhere around 5000 vert and a bunch of miles of skinning.

    Planned Destination:

We started at the snowline in the top right of the picture:

    Bullet Skinning:

    More picts tomorrow

What a beautiful place. The eastern Sierra continue to amaze me. There are years of skiing out there!

Nice. I think the Easter Sierra is my fave range. Plenty of snow, good rock, big peaks, big vertical, and great corn. Plus some nice hot springs.

Comish it was great touring with you. Like you said, next time we'll take the originally planned route and bag the summit. Looking forward to the upcoming tours with you....

    Thumbs up

    Comish: You fucking rule.

I gots to spend sometime down there.

SouthLakeCrew: If you read this thread, is this possibly the area you guys were talking about when we were up near crescent? Nate, Greydon and Walter were talking about somewhere south of Tahoe that was unreal.

    This looks pretty unreal.

A few other tidbits from the day:

Mrs. Comish's comment last night: "damn, one of those guys sure had bad aim, the bathroom was like a puddle"

Garmont Megarides sure tour well and ski fine on soft snow, but when it gets crusty, manky etc, the SUCK! Took them into the man at Footloose for surgery. Should come out with Flexon tongues, stiffening plastic on the inside, ground toe, and some pads to try and get them a bit closer to my beloved Dobies. The dobies have more support latched, but unbuckled, than the Mega's buckled.

Great group and looking forward to many more trips. Anyone else in that area looking for partners let me know.

Sunday at Mammy was still really fun. good packed pow on the groomers and some very dense smooth hard wind buff in the Paranoids. Mrs. Comish is psyched to check Phillipes.

The top of the NE couloir was doable in one day. We just took too much out of ourselves on our ascent thanks to a less than optimal skin track up the lower half. We made good time on the portion that we hit up high. A higher snow level would be a huge help in shortening the approach allowing one more energy for the ascent.

Anyone ever hit up Airport bowl? It looked soooo good a couple of weekends ago. Seems like an easy skin/hike. You could probably hit it several times in one day. Who's up for it?

Nice TR. The decents you don't get make the ones you do all the better. Looks like a beautiful area. Sierra tourning has been making a big push to the top the tables for the March vaca.

FYI, I found some pretty sweet pics of you most faded from the min party. They'll be up within a few days.
