    Sweden

Could be an option for work, 3-4 month project, April to July or so.
Upside: new place, cool culture, maybe some skiing (?), hot chicks (?)
Downside: working not traveling, spring chute skiing in US a big favorite, gf is in Chicago.

Thoughts? Would be my choice to do it or not if it happens. I don't know shite about Sweden, or even where the work would be.

    You must try the Surströmming!!

Cool - you'll be there for Mid-Summer!! Enjoy and remember when making a toast or being toasted you must keep eye contact while you drink.

The "Out of Area Code" rule applies double strength. She'll NEVER know.

You can prolly find some good skiing in Are.

Buy your liquor in the duty free shops in the Airport. You'll pay out yer ass for it in country.

    dood, go.

work isn't 24/7, even with your gig.
I think you'd kick yourself if you let the gf stop you from this.
Spring chute skiing in Sweeden must be nice too, eh?

Initial reports suggest that a change of scenery may be just what the doctor ordered, anyway.
    It's idomatic, beatch.

when on a project, work is nearly 24/7 actually. It's only when I'm here at home that I can goof off. When I was in France over the summer, I was fucking owned. Consistent 14 hour days.

And to be clear, the gf wouldn't stop me from going, I would stop me from going because I like to hang out with her and be around here at that time. What I need to know is whether or not there is still skiing there at that time, if it's cool enough there to make me give up my favorite time of year in the US, etc. I'm looking for firsthand info or opinions from someone who's been there around then... ?

    Anyone?

    Nice tip though, Tip.

I think there is a summer skiing scene up at Riksgransen. In any case, Sweden should be sweet in the summer.

If the gf is gonna balk and you consider her "THE ONE", I guess the decision needs a little contemplation and reflection. Otherwise, It'd take me about 3 seconds to decide this. Opportunities like this are few and far between and you'll regret not doing it when you're an aging metrosexual.

edit: Yoss's same-time post above makes this post pointless. I got nuthin'.

for fucks sake, is no one listening? It aint her. It's me. I LIKE TO HANG OUT WITH HER AND SKI THE COLORADO SPRING CHUTES AND OREGON/WA VOLCANOS AND CLIMB BIG ROCKS. This is about what *I* want to do.

Also, this isn't like a once in a lifetime thing. The world is a big place, and hopefully, life is long. I travel, it's what I do. I'll go there for fun anyway someday, might even be better since I won't be working 90% of the time in that case.

So, assuming I can use the interweb to figure out the basics...I'm looking for firsthand info/opinions on what it is like there at that time of year...

Thanks in advance, sorry for getting snippy, didn't seem like a tough question when I asked it.

I spent three weeks in Goteborg and Lysekil (across the strait from Denmark) in June of ‘00. Definitely a nice place to live and work. When I asked about skiing they said it was all in the North, and didn't compare to the Alps. In the south they said it rains side ways all winter long. In the summer the sun never sets, it was dusk for 6 hours.

As for the ladies, well to say you'll be tempted is an understatement.

Sounds like your gf not wanting you to go to Sweden is making you cranky.

Dude, we've talked at length about the GF in general. It should be a non factor in this decision.

Dude, I can't believe I have to tell you this: If you are in Sweden, the girl friend is a non factor. "Non" as in "yes I'd love to sleep with you, Jasi Vanderboobsalad!"

I saw a snowmobile movie recently with a sweden section. I remember being suprised how flat it was. Most of the rest of the movie they were jumping off cliffs and sledding in terrain that looked fun to ski. Sweden just looked cold. That's probably not a valid assesment of the whole country but if steep skiing is your primary motivation my guess is sweden is not the oppurtunity your looking for. I personally would go despite this warning.

besides don't your drive a saab? I think your decision is made.
