Question What makes a good spin instructor?

So the "instructor" of our group spin session lost his voice halfway through the routine. I had to take over and yell out intervals.

Trying to watch the timer, decipher the routine, and spin at 110 rpm left no room for cordiality or motivational speaking. When I tried to add 30+45 in my head, I rode off the rollers and almost killed Cornholio.

I have a newfound respect for spin instructors. What is the "ideal" instructor persona? Bubbly, with peppy motivational cliches? Or whip-cracking nazi?

    That's a given. I'm halfway there.

Music is key in those classes. As soon as your mind is allowed to wander and begins to realize the torture that your body is sustaining, that is when the "fun" begins. My favorite instructor is a drill sargeant, but super encouraging and has AWESOME music.

my fave class last year was called 'circle of friends' when it is farthest from the truth! we had a cute guy instructor that made us put the bikes in a big square, so you'd be facing the row of people across from you, and you'd alternate intervals, so while sides 1 and 3 are doing a standing climb, 2 and 4 are doing a standing rest. Anywhoo, music is TOTALLY key too, and this instructor guy knew his tunes... good times.
