    Ski pants that don't suck.

Before I get flamed, I used the search function but didn't find exactly the info I need.

    Here's what I'm looking for:
-loose fit, but not "park rat" loose. Just loose enough for unrestricted movement and something that'll fit my 34 inch waist but fat ass without making me feel like I have rolls of fabric at the waist or a perma-wedgie.
-water and wind proof for skiing in the Mid-Atlantic area. This means withstanding everything from snow gun blasts to slush.
-shorter inseam - like 31" or so (I gots short legs), so I don't have a yard of pant leg bunched up at the boots.
-slightly insulated or a shell with fairly thick fabric. I overheat quickly, but my current POS shell pants are too f'in thin to do ANY good. My ass freezes when sitting on the lift seat.
    -good ventilation (see above)
-adjustable waist (for after lunch/beers) Preferrable hook&loop w/ elastic straps.
-suspenders are ok, but not mandatory
-price IS a factor, but I'd be willing to pay up a bit for a superior product

    Help a maggot out....

I picked up some Alpine Design's from Gart's on sale for under $50 and I like 'em. They have thigh vents, not too thick, hav a mesh liner in them. Actually about the right lenght for me, hardly any boot-bunch. Loose, but not baggy. I think these are like Gart's house brand or something, but I'm not sure.

    Yep

There is really no equalling the Norrøna Lofoten bib/pant:

Detachable microfibre bib portion, hip length side zips, baggy (but no too baggy) fit, full gtx XCR, lower aramid scuffguard all way around, etc. In short: they rock. Hop thinks so too.

[/spam] disclaimer: I'm so frikkin stoked about those pants as I was a huge part of the design process and pretty much came up with the basic concept.

    Telepath beat me to it.
He's also stoked because he's modeling them in the pictures.

    They're not cheap.

    Teletori thinks so too!!!
I've been Norway around after those pants... but could just find them in either M or XL.

Gave up and bought a pair of cheap ok pants, and try again next year... and maybe then they get more colors too
    (want green, hint hint... )

One vote for Arc'teryx Beta AR. Not cheap @ 3 hundie, but absolutely bomber and a perfect one-pant quiver if you're looking for something sans bib. I 've got three seasons on mine and've used them mostly in EC crap, as well as UT and JH. Very versatile. http://www.arcteryx.com/product.aspx...ells&prod=1206

For me, snowboard pants are the way to go. Generally cheaper than ski pants and have a good loose but not overly baggy fit. Burton Ronin stuff has been good to me in the past.

i especially like that cute hip pocket that fits half your hand, or maybe your cell phone, or maybe your car keys, or your thumb with your ski gloves on. stylin.

everything else looks pretty rad about them.
ive got mountain hardwears conduit pant, can be had for under 2, and so far has held up great. wont have the last of gtex though. oh well, at least it matches my jacket.

Arc'teryx minuteman bibs at Sierra Trading. You didn't mention your waist size, so they might not have what you need. I got a pair of these and absolutely love them. They're loose around the hips and legs, and are really comfortable. No insulation, but a midweight capilene does the trick.

Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

They're priced in USD on the Norrøna website (www.norrona.com), there's a webshop in english with usd pricing. Only problem is that the Lofoten pants are sold out from Norrøna in most sizes. Next year however there will be a bunch more made, and in a wider selection of colors.

Telepath/hop - those look sweet. What price range? Where can I order them? They look like EXACTLY what I want!

Figure Eleven - I like snowboading pants too, but I tend to chew up the inside of the pant cuffs quickly, then the duct tape repairs make them look like crap.

wintermitten and Bags - I've tried Arc'teryx stuff on before. None ever seem to fit me right. I'm right in between the L and (damnit) XL sizes.

^^^ What he said. Burton for sure. Cheap, and lots of pockets. I have the Ronin Cargo: clear window to hold season pass, huge cargo pockets, bomber, core steeze.

The moustache, allthough very hard to see in this clip, is a giveaway. Guilty! Should have worn some pink fishnet stockings or something underneath, but alas, nothing like that in the current clothing line.

No matter what happens with Patagucci, I'm ordering a pair of Green bibs next year. You can put me down for one pair, size L (or whatever size you had with you last year).

    Thank you very much.

I picked up a pair of Marmot Cargo Pants when I was in Santa Fe that I used at Taos the next day. I like em a lot. Good fit, made with Marmots 'MemBrain' fabric. Good stuff, might wanna look into them, IIRC they were about $170. These bad mamma-jammas:

I'd like to throw in an additional vote for Norrona. The Arcteryx Minuteman bibs are nice, but the tiny pockets suck serious ass. I could have gotten a pair cheap last year, but passed because the pockets are so god damn small. The Lofotens are pretty much the same price but come with really nice pockets. Plus the Lofotens are just much nicer all around. That bib kicks ass.

Now, if I could just get my hands on the black Lofoten jacket in XL... They're sold out.

Fate=being wet and miserable when skiing anywhere but CO*

*I will remove this statement if they now use fabrics w/ more than 5000mm of waterproofness and tape every seam, not just the "critical" ones. WTF? I think every seam is pretty darn critical if you ask me.
