    Fat ski's with skinny bindings

Here's the deal. I got myself a pair of Atomic Stomps a while back and Atomic bindings to accompany the skis. For those that don't know, they are pretty damn fat(as in wide) skis....the bindings I got are made for your normal parabolic ski. I got an offer that I could not refuse on the ski/binding package and the dude at the shop said that I could bend the breaks on the bindings out to accomodate the fatness of the ski.

My question is, has anyone done this and what are the implications of doing so? How would I go about doing this? Can I buy wider breaks for the bindings?

I posed this question to my local Atomic dealer and the dude laughed telling me that somone was going to get killed when I took a digger and the skis went flying down the hill cuz the breaks won't work. I should have told him that if he didn't help me, when the above scenario did occur, that I would tell the authorities that he was the one who rigged it up!

Any help appreciated, I don't want to have to buy new bindings...

    Thanks,

    Theo

You can bend them easily. Stomps aren't wide at all, so that might be your best bet. You can also buy wide brakes from Atomic. And use the search function next time.

Oh thanks for the info, JONG! You have enlightened us all. Who knew that fat meant wide!

Yeah you can say Stomps are fat, but I wouldn't say they are pretty damn fat. Now Gotamas - those are pretty damn fat, and Prophets - those are fucking retarded fat!

They're at work so they have time to waste.

The shop you bought the package at may have wide brakes lying around in the back since they're always swapping narrow and wide brakes. They should provide the right brakes and swap narrow for wide for free.

    It never hurts to ask.

Thanks, Bro-Bra. I know that TGR Etiquette thread like the back of my hand.

I think I'll hand around for a while, despite the fact that you and your band of monkey's may want me to go elsewhere.

You guys seem to be a bunch of total dickheads, however, very charming. I like it. Maybe I am a dickhead too.

I see 'Jong' around a lot. Wait, sorry, 'JONG'. Please define so I can use the word in defense in the future. I can't call you a JONG if I don't know what it means.

My apologies on misleading you ass monkies by saying that Stomps were fat....I didn't mean to hurt anyones feeling and definately didn't want to ruffle feathas on one of my first posts. I fucked up, BIG.

So, I will take it back. Stomps aren't that fat at all. They are skinny. Very skinny.

Theo - as far the name. Sorry man, I just grab better air than you plain and simple. Check it out yo, it's all in the name, pronounced like so.....

    'Hux' - table

Say it out loud with me....HUX - table

By jove, I think he's got it!

By the way, not only are Stomps skinny but they also suck since they don't have robots on them. Everyone knows all the good skis have robots on them.

Yeah, I get it you wanker!

I don't particularly like the Stomps, but like I said, I got an offer I could not refuse on the ski/binding combo.

I like robots, a lot. Believe me, if I have the choice, I would be skiing pocket rockets, but the Stomps will have to do. I skied the rockets a couple of years ago and must say that they are the best ski I have ever been on....effortless in the powder and or on anything else for that matter.

Thanks for the 'web cred', bro-bra....I am going to ask another question despite the fact that there is no chance in hell that I will get a straight answer and I know for sure that I will get . Let me just say fuck off in advance!

Anyway, here goes.....I have bent the above mentioned bindings to accomodate the 'skinniness' of my very, very skinny Stomps. Yes, I know they suck and don't have robots and aren't fat enough for you fucksticks, *but* should I remove the silver plate that is on the ski and then mount.....is there an advantage to this?? I assume that I will have to drill holes manually if I do this...yes/no?

Or, should I just mount the bindings on said skinny Stomps with the plate on? If I choose this method, is there any drilling required?

They are Atomic bindings going on emaciated Stomps.

Pros/cons to having the silver plate thingy??

I eagerly await a response....keep in mind that my balls are already swollen from yesterday so please go easy on me cockknockers.

It'll make the ski lighter, but you void the Atomic warranty if you pull the plates off. Probably not worth it.

The reason I see people pull the plates is to mount non-Atomic bindings. Even then it's most common just to drill the plate.

Thanks, Spats. How bout drilling? Will I need to drill if they are Atomic on Atomic? There seem to be plenty of screws in the box along w/ holes on the silver plates...

Totally free cuz I had 'vouchers'. It was end of season two years ago and I just haven't mounted them up yet - I think the ski/bindings combo would have come to $400 or so if I didn't have the good ole vouchers. They were the closest thing to the pocket rockets in the shop and I figured by the looks that they would float nice in pow....I could be wrong, I'll let you know when I ski them sometime in the next couple of weeks if it snows. I just hope now that I don't butcher them from my novice mount job...
