Headed to SV for a week with a few friends starting 3/17. Thought I'd drop in on this thread to see what's going on. Never visited before but looking forward to being off work and skiing for a week. Don't want to poach your stashes but if you have any recommendations for an EC gaper let me know. Looking to try out my new Praxis Wootests when I'm out there. If you're nice to me I'll let you take them for a spin.

it is no secret anymore- you want the goods on back where the trees are black. pretty big zone, just watch the wind loading off the ridge when there is new snow. Because it is all burned, the wind can seriously fuck things up back there. I have seen some close calls first hand back there. also, don't get pulled into Basset (west) or you will have a long walk home- stay skier's right on the ridge. lokes will appreciate it if you bring your gear, as it is far too often that gapers drop in on top of you with no means to dig you out, let alone find you to do so. that is all. now i will receive my lashings for disclosure.

What if anything got burned on the front? Last time I was in town watched the fire from the bus stop at the Inn. Used to work and ski there decades ago. Thanks.

nice thread Sol glad you guys are getting it...out of town again... sucks to be always missing the good storms back home. but blower pow on Teton pass yesterday was nice and now I am in Verbier so no real complaints here, but still, scoring a little neighorhood pow this year would be nice at some point.

A really cool thing for Sun Valley to do would be to bring a bunch of large boulders up to the mountain and create a bunch of cliffs with just wire and spray concrete. That would make the hill a lot of fun. It is the only ski area in the rocky mountains that has zero air. A few cliff bands set into the hill would'nt be that much money and would improve the mountain a lot.

^^this would create havoc for our groomers and would only attract the undesirable under-60 crowd with no discretionary income.

Yeah Mantis this got me to thinking, Sun Valley should install the first Seniors Only terrain park in the world. They could offer all day grooming, catered cat rides back up, computer classes, bathrooms top, midway and bottom, ski through art gallery all on one run with no punks to worry about.

This is the kind of shit those flyboys in Pocatello feed us all the time. How the hell are we supposed to be able to tell whether this means we are going to get 2" or 4"?

.LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH NEXT SUNDAY. THE PERIOD FROM
WED THROUGH SAT APPEARS TO BE ONE OF THE WETTEST SCENARIOS FOR
SOUTHERN IDAHO IN THE LAST 13 YEARS. A SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE
CONNECTION IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP...PUMPING COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF WARM
MOIST AIR...FIRST INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA...WITH THE REMNANTS
MAKING IT INTO CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN IDAHO. AND THERE APPEARS TO BE
A LOT LEFT OVER. IF IT WAS ONLY ONE GUIDANCE PRODUCT EXPECTING
THIS...IT WOULD BE EASY TO WAIT FOR A FEW MORE RUNS TO SEE IF IT
HOLDS UP. HOWEVER BOTH GFS AND THE ECMWF ARE EXPECTING VERY HEAVY
RAINFALL...WITH HEAVY SNOWFALL ABOVE THE 6000 FT ELEVATION.
POCATELLO AND IDAHO FALLS ARE FORECAST TO RECEIVE MORE THAN ONE INCH
OF LIQUID WATER DURING THIS TIME. SNOWFALL WILL BE MEASURED WITH A
YARD STICK IN THE SAWTOOTHS AND IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE WOOD
RIVER BASIN. THIS WILL LIKELY BE HEAVY WET SNOW...WHICH BRINGS ON
AVALANCHE CONCERNS. OF COURSE THIS IS CONTINGENT UPON THIS FORECAST
STAYING THE COURSE. (there is was, one must read very carefully. Looks like 2".)
THE GFS AND ECMWF HAVE ACCELERATED THE
ARRIVAL...THUS HAVE INCREASED POPS FOR WED NIGHT AND THU. MESSICK

Come on Messick. Do you have any idea of the impact you might have when you write this stuff? I can't think of a better way to set a bunch of horny schmucks up for massive disappointment.

hey waitaminute- was that a double negative on the "...for a few more runs to see if it holds up."

and are they talking high speed groomer runs or just the bumps?

Messick gives me yardstick in my trousers, which then gets doused with cold water and slammed in the car door everytime.

While we did have some snow recently the Snotel on Galena (gets more snow than in town every time) is showing the same stored snowpack as 2007. Which was not a banner year as some may remember.

So apparently you don't screw with Messick when he brings out the yardstick. A six day deluge dumped 3.5" of water on Baldy (including .6" in a 2 hour period saturday morning), and somewhere around 5" in the Sawtooths. Snow levels where high early on but they dropped as the storm progressed.

    It started out dirty

    And rainy down low

The locals are pretty savvy, they know you have to be patient around here

And now it looks like this

Well it took us about a week of skiing dark, wet, mank to get to this point but that is what it is all about.

Probably the most beautiful picture I have ever taken of the Plaza lift or Flying Squirrel or #9 or whatever the fuck they call it. Perhaps ruined by the body position of a real life gaper but isn't that how life is. I figure it was four oclock and that motherfucker was up there givin her, probably having the run of his life so who am I to judge, rather just enjoy the stoke filled moment. Yes I did ski by said individual at 40+ moments after this photo and air to flat just to show what an awesome dipshit I am.

Aaaah Little Jaded catching a little air on his 10th birthday.

And then enjoying some waist deep death mank on his 32mm underfoot powder skis.

Finally after a week of no sun and lots of 40 degree moisture filled days or as they call it in Seattle, summer. Ullr with the GSA's approval spit out four more inches and then went code blue. At this point most of the local population which is well over 65 had retired to the wine bar comparing skidmarks, real estate photos and stories of the worst week of skiing ever, poor bastards it's even hard to walk your dog with a little bag full of shit in that kind of weather. Not Sol my friends, with his camera broken and his back up having battery trouble the only option left was a descent of Scorp for the ages.

Bracher mopping up the bowls long after the non crowds had receded. Great day, great week, shitty fucking season and I still don't give a shit.

Sun Valley did not suck for 8 PNWers and their local guide this last weekend. Just like skiing the Cascade Concrete we are so used to. Only this time it was 9 - 50 year old little boys on St Paddy's Day weekend. Good times. You can thank us for bringing that storm over from Mt Baker, biotches.

Was thinking about getting there Apr 26/27ish. However after looking at photos and ski report, I'm thinking not so much. Is it as skinny as it looks?
