    Fly Fishing around Reno/Tahoe Area

Wondering if anyone had any suggestions for fly fishing this time of the year around the Reno/Tahoe area. Haven't had much luck on the Truckee (near CA/NV border) and thinking it's just the wrong time of the year...

I think you want to be down on the Nevada side in Reno or even east of Reno/Lockwood area this time of year. The water is just too cold on the California side for much activity. It's do-able, but requires patience and different tactics. If you don't mind driving a little you can hit the Lower Yuba down by Hwy 20 when the Skwala hatch starts coming off

Lower yuba's pretty shitty right now. SKwalas should start at the end of this month or beginning of February. Who know's with this weather.

The Truckee on the CA side is fishing pretty well with this weather so until is gets really cold again you don't have to head all the way down. Keep and eye on Matt Kole's blog as he posts reports almost daily http://gilligansguideservice.com/blog/

Also try not to fish for then tackle spawning fish on the LT...

Pyramid can be really good although it's been mostly tough with the high pressure. The fish are big but don't exactly fight.

The Yuba is like a woman who can't make up her mind on which shoes to wear. One day the fishing is great, then the next day it sucks. Last Sunday was pretty good. I went 7 for 14. Largest was 16" with the rest being around 12" to 14". A guy and his wife who I ran into got some fish on caddis dries. I got mine on caddis wets and buggers. Who woulda thunk it: a caddis hatch in January.
