    Is anyone using a Fuji X100 ?

I know a lot of info, hype and complaints are out there about this camera. Are any of you using it on a regular basis? Especially, is anyone using it frequently while backpacking, skiing, that sort of thing? Admittedly, this is well outside the camera's target market, but I'm still curious to hear about it if you are.

I just spent the afternoon using a friend's X100 and loved it's form factor, external controls and viewfinder. Generally speaking, it was just fun and natural to use. It reminds me of some of the 35mm cameras with prime lenses that I've enjoyed using. The key for me is that it is compact, but unlike every other compact digital camera that I have used it A) still handles very nicely B) has an excellent viewfinder that lets you really see what the picture will look like before you take it and C) has the image quality and dynamic range of a DSLR. I prefer a prime lens for simplicity's sake, although it is a bit mad for mobility-limited activities. The price is high; but after using, it doesn't seem incredibly high. I have an old MF camera that I love for slow photography and a DSLR that is starting to collect dust because I usually prefer to not lug it around. I have a great point and shoot which is easy and convenient, but there is no real photo experience there and the results are pretty limited in terms of quality.

    Ramble off.

Just picked up a NEX-5N for a small backpacker and it's awesome! Very comparable.

I've had several friends get x-100's. About 1/2 of them have let them go and the other 1/2 loves the camera. Long story short, Great, (and I mean really, really good) IQ, but a "quirky" user interface with inconsistent focus issues. Most of the folks that I know that have let them go loved the concept, but thought it wasn't quite at a final form.
This is the worst pain EVER!

That does seem to mirror what I've read. It sounds like if Fuji fixed just a couple of problems they would have a real home-run camera. It's definitely nice to carry and use.

I lust after that camera as well. Reminds me of my Leica M2.

I have a recently acquired G12 and one thing I didn't ever think about in all the exhaustive research I did was to find out if the viewfinder (a must-have for me) showed a display of settings when used (like many of the old slr's and, I presume, current dslr's?). I REALLY wish it had this feature. Wondering if the Fuji offers this.

Also, the G12 viewfinder doesn't show you quite the entire frame as the screen does which I also find mildly frustrating.

Yes, the hybrid viewfinder will show you your settings.

The hybrid viewfinder is indeed one of the best features of the camera. I find that the lack of/poor quality viewfinder is the biggest downside to most compact cameras. The Fuji X10 is a nice compact but the viewfinder is crap compared to the X100. It is small and shows no information.

They're coming out with an interchangeable lens system. Should be announced soon. Who knows when it will be available for purchase, but if you can wait it might be the ticket.
