Anyone else have their digital camera's stop working when at a high altitude?
ive got a kodak... about 3 years old... the damn thing won't work above 11,000

11,000 isn't really very high. I'm not sure if high altitudes can have any effect on electronics except perhaps memory cards. Are you sure it's not just the battery having issues with the cold? Try keeping the battery in an inside pocket until you're ready to use it.Originally Posted by thedudeabides
Electronics aren't altitude sensitive. Cold temperatures will sap the batteries and affect electronics. Condensation can be a problem (cold camera into a warmer wetter environment. Static might be an issue if the humidity is very low. That might be altitude related.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.
Buy a new battery pack or try an external battery pack.Originally Posted by Snow Dog
Electronics can be altitude sensitive due to air sealed inside ICs during manufacturing. Many electronics have max altitude ratings of 9000-10000ft. OTOH this is the first I've ever heard of anything actually ceasing to function at altitude.

On the same hike, a girl's sony camera stopped working. No reason other than the altitude that we can think of as it had been subject to cold and humidity issues before.
The air is thinner at altitude. Give the carburetor adjustment screw 1/2 a turn out to let it breath better.
