How much do you want or need to lose? How ya gonna do it?

    I'm talking weight...of course.

I'm 6'3 and normally anywhere from 190 - 200 pounds. Around 198 right now. I'm lucky to have been born a mesomorph with a classic, David-style natural athlete's body. I've been lucky so far, and still have that same exact body-type. But I would also like to keep it that way. I just want to and feel I NEED to streamline it. Even carrying around an extra 7 pounds isn't something I want to be doing.

So this year I resolve to KEEP my resolve and lose maybe 5 or 10 pounds and get my tone back.

To do it, I figure I have to increase my activity level and decrease my food-intake...and most importanly....pay attention to WHAT I eat, as well as how much. All that is obvious, of course....but DAMN hard to actually stick to.

Why in hell is it so much harder to lose 5 or 10 pounds than say it would be to lose 60 or 70? I know the physiologic answer is because I'm already close to my body's natural target weight...and so I'm basically fighting evolution for those last few pounds.

What's youse guys plans?? Need/want to lose?? What's yer plan?

    EDIT:
I figure if I can get down to 185 to a max of 190, that would work. But I can't escape that my natural body is mesomorph...not a hyper-skinny ectomorph. So..if I get down too much, I'd just look like a prison-camp survivor.

I put on my ski pants today and could barely get them snapped. They kept unsnapping themselves all day long.

I got on the scale when I got home and after a day of skiing (dehydrated, empty stomach) I'm at 182. Holy shit, I haven't weighed this much in over 5 years.

I'm gonna get off my ass and start running 8-10 miles again, 3 times a week. I'm going to stop ordering pizza one night then going out for wings the next, then fixing a big plate of pasta the night after that.

I'm going to buy some veggies (broccoli, celery, carrots, snow peas) and start eating them for lunch like I used to when I was working.

That should fix me up in about 2-3 months. Gotta get back down to 165 - 168.

I don't give a shit really what I weigh or look like, as long as I feel strong in the activities I do. Right now I don't feel strong. At all. I've been hammering the gym lately and I just got a few items for the home, like pull up bar, stationary bike, medicine ball and exercise ball. I also just rejoined the Y as opposed to my normal gym so I can swim. My goal is to get back to the point where mountain biking, elk hunting, bc skiing all are pure enjoyment instead of suffering mixed with enjoyment.

Heat with wood. Go in the woods and select a tree, cut it to a length you can carry on your shoulder, bring it to yer truck, repeat until box is full. Haul home and cut to splitting length. Split with a traditional ax and stack in a orderly fashion. Stay warm without giving any $$$ to the big oil man. I run three wood stoves 24/7 for my buildings and I like it and I have no gym fees.
Disclosure; I have propane back up for when I'm gone skiing or fishing.

Actually I LOVE chopping wood and it iS great exercise both anerobically AND aerobically! Been doing it for years. I use a splitting maul instead of a standard axe, and a wedge when needed. The only times I've borrowed a log-splitter is when I had 3 full cords to split and very little time to do it.

It's a good work-out and makes me feel good to boot. Great way to get rid of excess energy or frustration.

Yup. This and hunting are my fall work outs. I cut about 2.5 cords this year and chopped it all like my name was Paul Bunyan. It's not.

    ^^This^^

There is a lot more to being in good shape than your weight, although when you've got a grasp on what your "normal" is, it's an easy way to catch yourself when you slip.

Looks, meh, really depends on if you're out chasing tail or not. Even then, the little difference between in shape and slightly out usually won't matter.

FWIW, here is how I stay (sort of) in shape:

    No soda, ever
any errands in town, in decent weather that I can run on a bike, I run on a bike
Do lots of fun shit (ski, bike, hike, etc)
cut way back on fried foods
Try to work out with kettlebells and an elliptical machine 3-5 times a week

I'm not any kind of Adonis, but I feel good and can enjoy my hobbies

I figure another key is....instead of thinking about doing something, or how nice it WOULD be to do something....just stand up, put your shoes on and go do it.

Went for my first run in about 2 weeks yesterday (and that run was the first one in maybe 2 months!)....felt really good, actually. ran a solid two miles at a fast pace before needing to walk a bit.

Going out now again for another one in a few minutes. Ice and snow can sometimes be a hinderance, but I switch to XC if too much snow. I bike all year...in ice, snow (up to a point), whatever.

Now that the holiday food season is pretty much over, I got all that outta my system. Went out and bought a bunch of fruit. Still like my coffee, but I'm goin g to try it with less sugar and less cream and try and stay away from that fake cream shit.

Looking at bee pollen....hear good things about it. Don't know anythingf about it, as I'm not a bee.

    EDIT:

Something looks a little funny about the TGR forums now. Did Y2K just happen last night...12 years late??? But at least it's still up.

Don't need to lose anything. I swam 550 miles last year and I swam HARD. If anything I need to make sure I don't lose weight.

I am 6'-4'' and weigh about 230 now. I am 45. When I was 25 and more driven in my touring and biking, I weighed 195, and was pretty fast. I would be happy with 210 lbs now. I am going to cut down on big lunches out, and skin a bit more. I am out in the winter skinning one or two days a week currently, but more aeroebic workouts would be good. It has been over five years since I have been in a gym, and in that time I have gotten lazy, and married. I find it a lot easier to be a slug, or have a few glasses of wine each night, with a partner. I need to spend more time in the gym at night, and less time on the internet.

Weight has fuck all to do with it. When I was in the best shape that I've ever been in, I was 210 lbs. I;m in much worse shape, and look worse, and I'm 205. The difference is tat when I was 210 I was lifting 4 days a week, played basketball 3-4 times a week, rode my bike ~5mi to the pool and back most days, where I swam 600m each time, and for fun on the weekends I'd be biking or hiking or something. Now I don't.

So the plan for this year is to get to the pool at least 4 times a week, and get back to the gym. This summer, hike, bike, etc as much as possible. I like the wood heating idea. I'm moving to a town where most places are wood heat, so that's probably the easiest idea anyways.

600 meters? It must have taken you much longer to ride your bike there than it did to swim! Try to step this up to at least a mile/1500 meters.

10 lbs or so but I won't lose it, I'll just replace it with muscle mass hopefully this winter. Back in the gym after quitting for 3 years after being pretty religious for the previous 25 years or so.

I´m practically obese these days, too little activity, not enough restraint. 5´9", 210 lbs, realistically plan to drop to 185-190 within a couple of months of skiing, crosscountry skiing, interval running (4x), and eating healthier (not any of those ridiculous fucking diets, more in variation and amounts).

This fall has been a long ass feast, looking forward to getting back in shape.

    5' 6" 150lbs, just like 20 years ago.

Working on the aerobic side. Seems like the lungs go to hell over 50.

Sitting at about 197 after Christmas. I normally sit about 192, I'd like to be 185. Just bought a new sled. I'll be touring my ass off for the rest of the winter. That'll help ditch some weight.

I changed minor things. Eat high fiber oatmeal or cereal in the morning. Banana everyday and one other piece of fruit. Red meat reduction and avocado or salad everyday. Tuna, chicken chipotle or that type of thing. Surprisingly back to high school weight within a month. Oh lots of water and less soda.
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....
