    PacNW Weekend Skiing Options

Ok Ya'll. I know everyone's backsides hurt from the weather lately, but at least we might be able to get a reach-around from it.

So what's our options? For a day trip, the best I can come up with is 49 North. They seem to have been warmed up the least by the pineapple express. They also seem to have the most snow. It's about a 3hr drive either way from Seattle, assuming I-90 is in good shape, so it's a burly drive, but if we have enough people, we could do it.

Other ideas? Mt Bailey? Kicking Horse? Silver Star? All of those would have to be over-nighters.

I don't see the backcountry as being a particularly good option... Maybe the instability will have slid itself out by Saturday morning?

Rain/freezing rain through interior BC and roads into Golden are closed, rumor is rain to the summit at Kicking Horse and avy conditions are off the charts.

You talkin' about now? Can't go until mid February at the earliest, but totally into a roadie to either place or Red, even. Shall we begin organizing this, the Escape From The NW Road Trip?

Maybe a weekly roll call would work. Check forecast/conditions make a call Thursday on location then carpool up on Friday and go. Repeat until conditions resemble winter again. I'm in for a weekend or two away but next two are spoken for .

Anyone going to the JH Summit?

How has Bachelor held up this week? That could be a worthwhile option.

be carefull of the roads into silver star. some nasty freezing rain, they closed most of the roads there on monday, and it was slicker than well something really slick.. managed to crawl at 20mph throught that hell. Seriously the slickest roads I will ever see were on monday night trying to get back to seattle. it was actually raining with a temp of 24deg, super bad inversion layer, which caused about an inch of black ice on the roads... interesting indeed..

Well, it seems that I-90 at least is clear. That'd be another vote for a 49 N run this weekend. But, I think it's only realistic with a couple people to share the drive.

    Anyone? Beuller?

If y'all want to come over I can put people up for the night. Haven't checked around. I assume everywhere got hit hard over here. It's been 40 and raining for 48 hrs now. Pretty sure that doesn't mean snow on the hills. From here 49 is an hour, and lookout is about an hour. Lookout might be the best bet.

They had rain, too. Was suppose to go there over the last weekend. Didn't seem worth it and that notion was corroberated earlier today.

Off to mighty mission ridge for the weekend so grrrr jr can race. They have just about three runs open on manmade snow which will be beefed up with 400lbs of salt. I volunteered to gatekeep, because the skiing will suck so bad.

Sixteen days to justify my Baker pass - got 8 so far.

Rain at Bachy everyday since Friday. Today was partly cloudy and very warm. Everything off piste is pathetic. That includes all BC options. Don't think it is worth the drive from Washington, but if ya all do come, we can drink beers anyway.

SLC last weekend was actually pretty good as long as you were humble in respect to what you wanted to ski after hiking. It was sunny warm and the snow was still soft. Powder Mtn on thurs and friday was the place for fresh tracks for two days as well as Mt. James from the cat opened fri afternoon. High pressure has moved in so no freshies, but i think Beaver got some on Sat night. I left sun to clear skies and that was the forecast for a while.

forecast for central or cascades looking less than desireable for the weekend. supposidely we have colder air and a storm moving in monday/tuesday that will produce a superior form of precipitation.

    spokane, coeur d' alene resorts

Local resorts lost almost 3 feet of snow. 4 out of 5 resorts were open the only one that was open on the 20th was Silver Mountain. Check it out its I-90 the whole way to Kellogg, ID and then a 20 minute gondola ride to the resort.
