Communications Manager
POSITION PURPOSE
To generate local, national and international editorial coverage for Park City and Summit County as a year-round vacation and meeting destination. Also, generate similar publicity about area special events, Chamber/Bureau programs and other newsworthy items.
RESPONSIBLILITIES
Plan and execute an annual public relations plan/campaign.
Formulate department’s annual budget outline.
Coordinate with the Directors of Special Events and Member Services to keep the Chamber/Bureau membership and the Park City/Summit County community updated on C/B programs and activities.*
Manage Communications Coordinator and public relations agency of record.
Manage the Communications Marketing Advisory Committee process.
Work closely with all Chamber/Bureau departments to insure proper media coverage for various programs.*
DUTIES
Produce news releases about Chamber/Bureau programs as required.
Organize and participate in media outreach tours in major media markets in the U. S. and Canada.
Advise and assist the International Sales Manager with international public relations activities as requested.
Perform media interviews as needed. *
Host visiting journalists for inbound press visits. Includes initiation/pitching of visit, arranging itineraries, coordinating trip details, supervising contractors, coordinating with participating Chamber/Bureau members, and accompanying journalists as needed.
Respond to requests from journalists for information and photography.
Produce and oversee distribution of winter and summer online media kits.
Coordinate with the Tourism Marketing Manager to ensure the photo and video gallery on the Chamber/Bureau’s web site is updated with current images and video.
Update winter and summer b-roll footage and video clips as needed.
Manage a media database.
Work closely with Director of Special Events to insure proper media coverage.*
Manage the relationship with the contracted media monitoring provider(s) and provide an ongoing analysis of editorial coverage Park City receives.
Coordinate Communications Marketing Advisory Committee (MAC) to produce annual PR Campaign.
Represent the Chamber/Bureau on the Ski Utah PR Committee (and others, as necessary).
Manage the production of the Chamber/Bureau’s regularly-scheduled newsletter, The Summit Outlook.*
Participate in professional communication organizations (i.e. SATW).
Produce a monthly Board of Directors’ report.
Produce a monthly variance report.
Maintain regular communications and task management with the Chamber/Bureau’s public relations agency of record.
Negotiate the annual agreement with the Chamber/Bureau’s public relations agency of record.
In conjunction with the Chamber/Bureau’s public relations agency of record, develop Park City media pitches on a scheduled basis.
Plan and implement regularly-scheduled meetings with the public relations managers/directors at Park City’s three ski resorts, including creating the agenda for each meeting.
Complete other tasks as directed by President/CEO and Director of Sales and Marketing as needed.*
Meet regularly with key lodging, arts/culture and restaurant partners, and representatives of organizations such as the Utah Olympic Park and National Ability Center to stay current on possible media story angles.
