Search for "moonlight" and you'll find the thread. As far as I know, CNL doesn't own any part of Lone Peak.

As far as I know, they own everything that people think Boyne owns. I don't think Boyne really owns anything at Big Sky anymore, they just lease it from CNL. (per that link, but I really don't know anything, I just hear rumors and read shit on the web...)

...and everything has to be true on the internet....Bonjour ha ha.

A guy I know who knows the owners of Boyne told me a while ago that CNL was out and Boyne owned Big Sky...but then I would see the same information you saw regarding CNL owning it and Bonye managing it for them. Who the hell cares as long as it SNOWS!!!!

I don't think they will ever put a lift on the north face. The snow and terrain is too variable, and there are very few people who would actually ski it. I think the safest bet is an eventual upgrade of the tram.

It would be nice if they replaced the old gondola with a lift that went from base to tram. I would also think the plan for a major upgrade to the mountain mall will go forward at some point.

Putting a roof on the Mountain Mall that does not leak would be a nice upgrade. Toilets that flush would be a nice touch too...

I predict that rather than an un-leaky roof, you will see an entirely new building. Same goes for the Huntley.

Was up there this week, they started exterior improvements to the mountain mall. Friends who own a store said they are "upgrading" the existing building. Doing it in phases and improving the existing building as oppose to bulldozing so the existing businesses survive.

    50K race this weekend.

Press release says the race director used to be a patroller at Moonlight.

Mike was with us for 1 season. Very good guy.

Also a complete freak. One of those people who thinks a 100 mile run at high altitude is a fun thing to do every now and then.

Man, you'd almost have to be to run an ultra-marathon...at high altitude...up and down rugged mountain terrain. I checked out the details of the race in the current local paper. Holy balls! That thing is INSANE!!! Best of luck to all the participants! And mad props to those who finish, or heck, even sign up for the thing.

If the firefighters were waiting for a season ending event, this was it for the Big Sky area.

Probably close to 1" of H2o in the past 24 hrs along with maybe 5-7" of wet and heavy snows to recharge the streams and get the elk moving.

    Bring on Indian summer!

I will not say exactly where, but this weekend I was hiking within the boundries of BS/MLB/SP/YC and I heard a bull elk bugling.

edit: different spot than listed in my post below.

I walked up on the mountain (not to the summit, over on Middle Road) with my cowbell and cheered people on. I am in awe of that kind of athleticism. No way could my fat ass do that, but it is great that there are people in this world who can. I hung around for several hours, about every 20-30 minutes someone would come running by. I would cheer and clang my cowbell. I got a smile and a wave from everyone. Hard to believe at that point they had already done over 20 miles, including going up Bonecrusher to the summit and down Dakota, and still had to climb Andesite.

Lone peak really got a healthy dose. Wilson and Dudley don't look too shabby either. Heck, ALL the hills look beautiful today. So happy to see the mountains around my house white again.
