    There are bigger problems then closed ski areas in the pac nw

    Here is the flood statement for the river in my hometown. It doesn't look good Especially for the upriver communities that got nailed in the fall 2003 flood.

    SKAGIT R NR CONCRETE
    FLOOD STAGE: 28.0 FT. LATEST READING: 26.3 FT AT 04:15 PM TUE.

    FORECAST: RISE TO FLOOD STAGE AROUND 7 PM TUESDAY. CREST NEAR 36.7
    FEET AROUND 4 PM WEDNESDAY. FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE THURSDAY EARLY
    AFTERNOON. RISE TO FLOOD STAGE AROUND 7 PM TUESDAY.

    AT 37.0 FEET...THE SKAGIT RIVER WILL CAUSE MAJOR FLOODING FROM
    ROCKPORT DOWNSTREAM THROUGH SEDRO WOOLLEY. DEEP AND SWIFT FLOOD
    WATERS WILL INUNDATE MANY ROADS...FARMS...AND SOME BUSINESS AND
    RESIDENTIAL AREAS ESPECIALLY CAPE HORN...HAMILTON...AND THUNDERBIRD.
    COCKREHAM ISLAND...THE NOOKACHAMPS AREA AND THE STERLING AREA WILL BE
    INUNDATED. LEVEES EAST OF SEDRO WOOLLEY MAY BE DAMAGED. THIS LEVEL
    FOR THIS LOCATION ON THE SKAGIT CORRESPONDS TO A PHASE 3 FLOOD IN THE
    SKAGIT COUNTY FLOOD SYSTEM.

    FLOOD STAGE: 28.0 FT. LATEST READING: 24.5 FT AT 04:30 PM TUE.

    FORECAST: RISE TO FLOOD STAGE AROUND 6 AM WEDNESDAY. CREST NEAR
    34.2 FEET AROUND 4 AM THURSDAY. FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE FRIDAY
    MORNING. RISE TO FLOOD STAGE AROUND 6 AM WEDNESDAY.

    AT 36.0 FEET...THE SKAGIT RIVER WILL CAUSE SEVERE NEAR RECORD
    FLOODING FROM SEDRO WOOLLEY DOWNSTREAM THROUGH MOUNT VERNON TO THE
    MOUTH. DEEP AND SWIFT FLOOD WATERS WILL INUNDATE AND POSSIBLY DAMAGE
    MANY ROADS...FARMLANDS AND RESIDENTIAL AREAS. LEVEES MAY BE DAMAGED
    AND THEY COULD FAIL. MAJOR SANDBAGGING WILL BE NEEDED TO PROTECT
    MOUNT VERNON. THIS LEVEL FOR THIS LOCATION ON THE SKAGIT CORRESPONDS
    TO A PHASE 3 FLOOD IN THE SKAGIT COUNTY FLOOD SYSTEM.

    True, true... Made a call to the folks in rural Thurston Co. and they had trouble getting out of the driveway this morning and are expecting to be displaced for the next couple of days.

    On the local (Vancouver BC) news there was a film crew at flooded road yesterday. A woman in a minvan ignored the "closed due to flood" signs and drove until her van floated away.

    A reporter was standing in a pond/parking lot in Vancouver. She was wearing chest waders. It was barely enough. It would have been cool to send a dive team to the underground parking lot next door.

    I heart weather.

    not surprising - every creek from Sumas to Bellingham looked on the rise yesterday - and there was more snow to melt

    They just had a two houses swept away in Vancouver in a mudslide this morning.
