I had the pleasure of trying out the all new carbon weave which Pat is putting into next years version of

the 191 Lhasa Fat as well as getting his first full base grind and texture on the new wintersteiger.
Picking them up as they're being finished. it's a fun process to watch

pat and jeremy running them through the wintersteiger

the finished product is a BIG ski at 4.24 lbs/ski

so lets throw some heavy ass dukes on em

    wax on

wax off (i guess technically, those are both wax off)

there's a good view of the carbon weave

this was on a wednesday on the way to crater lake, oregon since tahoe had zero at this point. crater lake had zero to very little as of the previous friday. things change fast. the skis are definitely lively and i think the tree lines show it off pretty well. the ski definitely has the dual personality of the 196's (the red white and blue ones on the wall in the pic above) from 2 years ago meaning you can stand on the tips and point it or stand in the center and get it to act like a smaller more playful ski.

when i returned on saturday it was hitting tahoe. high snow levels meant not much in the way of depth, but everything was plastered nicely. on monday they loved kirkwood as well

then, on tuesday, disaster struck. ok, stupidity is what struck
i went for what was supposed to be a short tour off tahoe mountain down to the high school to ski with the dog and look at what might be fun skiing at times. anyway, it had turned to mank and wasn't fun and was not good for the dog once he was out of the skin track. we turned around and went back. for some reason i left the skis in the snow in front of the car instead of leaning against the car or set perpendicularly on parallel poles on the road behind the car. to the point, i drove away without the skis/skins/duke bindings, and mismatched poles. since i had a cold, i didn't ski for the next three days and on friday i cleaned the car and realized the skis weren't there, nor in the garage or my room. i went back immediately (which was friday afternoon at 4 (coincidentally right when i had to be at work) and the skis were gone. i put up flyers and have received two calls both saying they saw the skis on thursday.
they are blems and have a noticeable sidewall repair that has been covered over a little with white marker. as far as i know they are the only 191 fat lhasa out there at this time with the darker graphics and the perpendicular weave (without the diagonal pattern) but Pat can correct me if I'm wrong on that. Mounted with old dukes (black/gold/small) at 306mm. BD Glidelight skins in the tire tread pattern were also included in the package dammit.
    here they are

and here is where they were

it is important to note that it snowed or rained in tahoe six out of six days i had the skis, and it it's only snowed 2" in the 12 days since. help find my skis and i promise it will snow again.

Maybe we can get powdork to chime in on the 187. He skied it all last year, prolly 200 days. We have enough left to be finished to last a while, hopefully you filed early.
Thanks. That sounds like what I want. Is the weight around the same, ~4.3 lbs per ski? And yes, I did file early!

This years are probably lighter than that since he is using better carbon but that sounds close to last years weight. Ironically, I weighed mine earlier today, mounted with Barons, and it showed 7.2lbs. My scale might need to be calibrated, regardless they are ridiculously light

Just shipped the last pair of finished 191 Fats and went looking to see what we have left that needs finishing. Looks like we're down to six pair of hybrids. Three of those pair have the twill fabric on top like whyturns and three have the 45/45 weave like powdorks. The 45/45 pairs are def the trippier-looking of the two but seem to have come out with slightly higher cambers.

Price has been dropped to $899 on all our skis, 179 Lhasas to $799.

Price drop, say whaaaaat? Insane deal for a sick ski.

Edit: My 191 Fats mounted with heavy PX15 race bindings weighed in around 7.2lb's also, super light for a bigger ski

Til they're gone, Jed. Only three or four pair left. Got a pair of hybrids with the trippy carbon tops like in powdork's photos that will be going into a blem sale tomorrow. Camber came out too high but they're cherry.

I should have the cash in the fall. I want pure carbon anyway for the dynafit experience.

Picked up my all carbon, slightly softer, fats Sunday. First impression; everything I was looking for.

What was it I was looking for? A replacement for my chainsaw Megawatts, a ski that was better than the watts on hardpack and in crud, while still having the ability to float and slarve. To get this I was prepared to have a narrower ski with less rocker and a bit stiffer flex.

The flex is somewhat stiffer than the watts in the tip and pretty much the same underfoot and in the tail. They seem much "poppier", probably the carbon, and the tip rocker is lower and shorter, but also seem more natural compared to the clownshoes on the watts. They semi-twin on the watts has been replaced by a slight upturn on the fats.
Overall, far from the big mountain beast I was worried they would be. Compared to some other skis I've skied the last few years I would say they are slightly stiffer than 186 EHP and Rossi Ravyns. Stiffer than C&Ds in the tip and tail, but softer underfoot.

As others have stated, the skis seem to be of great quality. My only problem now is of course the tele-mount-voodoo. Going to mount these with NTNs, probably at Pats suggested or -1/-1,5. The mounting point is a bit forward compared to the 'watts, but due to less rocker that makes sense.

There is only one pair of 191 Fats left out of what was quite a bunch a month ago. They are hybrids.

preparing to mount my new 191 Fats.

the line appears to be @ 104.5cm from the tip.
this mount point seems a bit forward to me; it's about 2cm farther forward than my 191 Goliath (and the Lhasa Fat has more tip rocker).

who has mounted where, and did you like it?

I have mine mounted almost 1cm forward and they're perfect for touring. That puts the mount well behind my 192's mounted on the line

^^^ how far from the tip?

    (my line is handmarked)

the mount point on your 192s is farther forward than on your 191s?
the 192s are a "more chargey" kind of ski. yes?

    At zero and it rips.
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

The 192's definitely charge, I'm at 1055mm from the tip on those. I'll have to pull a binding to measure the Lhasa mount but the line should be the same on all of the 191 fats. And just for fun a couple scenic shots from yesterday on Lhasa fats.

Pretty sure that 104.5 is incorrect.

Reg 186 Lhasa is 104 pulled from tip, and so 191 is 106.5 pow, 105.5 resort.

    hmmm, that's 104.46mm.

    thanks for measuring, Jed.

i might not have had my tape pulled taut.

i'm sure all the lines are marked at the skunk works and trust that the lines are at the same distance from the tip (hand marking is the way to go).

but i just want to get some opinions prior to drilling and haven't seen too much mention of mounting points on this board.

i'll probably just trust the wisdom of the builder and go with Splat's mark.

FWIW in re: to the difference in mounting points between the 191 Fat and the 191 Goliath: the Goliath does have a square tail while the Fat has a rounded, slightly raised tail (i can see this pushing the effective edge forward, and thus the boot center mark as well).

104.5 has been the mark since we got reports it made them much quicker for tree skiing and that the tips won't dive. That's tape pulled straight, no bends. People have gone even further forward than that, but I say that's as far forward as I'd go. Pull from the tips.

I ski mine almost exclusively in titans and being a huge fatass being a little forward makes them super easy to ski neutral without driving the tips too much. If they were my resort sticks if be on the line.

Just got a mail from the GSA. He's rockin his 191 Fats at JH lately and rather ecstatic about the performance. He sent me a vid of him rippin on them but I can't get it to open. edit: Got it open. He's rippin them 191 Fats just the way they should be!

Still got a pair of dual rocker 191 Fats for sale cheap for feedback on them.

after much debate regarding what and where to mount i finally decided to mount my 191 Lhasa Fats with sollyfits for a 302BSL @ -1.2cm.

that puts my alpine boots @ -1.5 and my touring boots @ -0.9.

skied them in boot top wind blown leftovers today and that mounting point seems like money.

on a side note: i'm not selling these skis.

short review: poppy, chargey, slarvy; don't get in the back seat.
