SUP?

I don't speak SFB, but I've seen some pretty amazing shit fishing from the SUP. Props to the dudes catching 100+ pound tarpon a mile off shore on a SUP. Also seen some pretty sweet sight fishing for tailing reds an such. If the play park goes in at Pumphouse, I'll probably get one. If you gotta kneel down to make the rapids, SUP is a little weak. However, I've tried it and it makes surfing and average 2' wave pretty fun vs. boring in a kayak.

You're gonna have to help me out. By rollerblades I assume that you mean you should be skateboarding in the park or running on the trail. In those instances, rollerblades require less skill and athletic ability and are therefore inferior? Is that right?

So in the following instances, if SUP is the rollerblades, what is the skateboard or running shoes?

Paddling class II rivers?

Coastal fishing for tarpon, snook, etc.?

Inshore fishing in skinny water for redfish, sea trout, pompano etc.

River fishing for trout?

Going for a mellow cruise in the habor or lake?

Of note: I think SUPs are boats and have no place in the lineup with paddle surfers and in that case are rollerblades.

It's a tool that works perfectly for this tool. Moving down to a 9' for more surf-focus...

I went down to a Caution 8'6" (http://cautionsup.com/boards/86-x-30/). Bought it used. On my 4th day out, I broke the tail about 80% off - it was barely hanging on. After a super expensive repair (including installing a couple of stringers), it's still a super fun surf toy.

Moral of the story is that some manufacturers go with a super lightweight (cheap?) blanks to enable making the big volume SUPs for minimal weight penalty.
